With all the unknowns there's no way I'd commit myself to commuting to a junior captain seat for who knows how long.

Still, something to say for potential SLI protections.

I get that. But there’s also some plus points. Not just further bids, but also potential SLI C&Rs from the arbitrators. Eg, VX/AS when the list was effective Oct 1 2018, it gave a 5 yr red dot protection to any current Capt at that time in the event they were invol displacement from left seat after bidding all CA seat, all bases, and couldn’t hold it. Next bid, they would get an award over a more senior pure FO wasn’t a CA before. In the end, as best as I recall, that protection never had to kick in from 2018-2023.
Still, something to say for potential SLI protections.

Anyone curious why these vacancies are held secretively from either side? Wouldn't you all want to know the junior freighter, Seattle HAL side seniority spread, movement, etc? How do we make that happen?

This is the first time we've ever gotten a "live" snapshot during the bidding process. They simply took a snapshot of a base position list if the bid had processed in that moment in time and uploaded it to our comply app. You'd have to do some legwork to discern anything from it if you weren't on the seniority list.

The positioning for SLI and "red circle" or whatever they want to call it, has come and gone. Bidding CA now for that motive, would be moot.
