Okay so just so I completely understand... Living out of base is not an option... BUT.... Do you guys get AT LEAST, get one block of days off a month to travel out of state (say to see family)... Or are the schedules that locked up that you might as well write off anyone who doesn't come with you...

For all intentional purposes, the latter. Unless you consider 2 days off together a block.

Generally, the only block of days you might get off are Tuesday and Wednesday, but the only thing you are guaranteed to get off are single days.

This is accurate. They also just canceled an upgrade class all the while using "sub-services" to make up difference.

I have a block of 4 and a block of 3 days off next month. I had to trade a day to get the block of 3 off. Everything else is single days off. I've seen another captain's schedule that also has a block of 4 and a block of 3 off. I've seen another schedule that has the first 7 days off, then the rest of the month is single days off.
There is available open time, and while I've been able to trade a bit to make my schedule more to my liking, I've also been shot down for trades because they've designated certain days "100% Fly Days" and they're not allowed to permit crewmembers to trade out of, PTO or drop those days.

I also have 2 weeks of 5 days off in a row. In base, we network and will trip trade with each other to help out. Living in and senior in base, I'll even take a RSV day, if I can help them out; never been called and the one I helped got to do what they wanted. Still, there's improvements to schedules, TDY, open time, etc..

It would seem to me it would be cheaper to come to some sort of agreement with the pilot group. Training costs for new hires is not cheap. A constant turnover of pilots and flight cancellations has to cost more than paying an industry standard wage.

Exactly how many days off a month do you guys get anyway? Do they have you flying maximum hours year round? I'm also curious how many legs you guys do in a day?
