Read back on this thread. At least one 3 month seniority pilot held Captain in the TDY base. That was because the F/Os on the property were too smart to bid it.

It sounds like a real screw job.

Go for it. Five days of systems ground school now. They couldn’t teach it in ten.

Most systems ground schools I'm familiar with (MD-80/737/DC-9) are at least two weeks and that's minimalist IMHO.

I don't think the training department has any clue, let alone any of us. But if you get the -80, expect the TDY base.

Guys are not getting HOM base (TDY, by seniority, at the various bases) as their assigned base, unless they specifically ask for it. Yes, there is a good chance if you are young (low on the seniority list for your class) you will get OAK, however, everyone is getting assigned a base, but you WILL end up somewhere other than your base (most likely) right after training, as you haven't been able to put in a bid yet and will be auto-reserve somewhere in the system. At least one guy in my class has bid for HOM, the idea being that he wants to see all the bases and decide where he wants to end up. He's single and doesn't mind not paying rent, getting a hotel and a rental car and living out of a suitcase. A month of TDY seems to be running around $500 or so, in terms of per diem. Also, if you choose to make other arrangements for lodging, you can take the 50% payout for hotel, which in Vegas was around 1100 dollars.

The HOM; Home Base, whatever they’re calling it sounds like what you will be regardless of how it’s designated. So, if your question is where will you be based initially; it will most likely be everywhere. There simply is no way to predict where crew services will put you. You will be assigned a base and it won’t mean much, for at least a year. Just plan on packing a heavy suitcase.

It’s all good though, because in about a year or so you’ll be getting an unscheduled 7 to 10 day vacation.

Can someone please explain HOM and TDY?
And are these just Allegiant terms or it's a common thing? I'm unfamiliar.

HOM and TDY, mean virtually the same thing as far as you’re concerned. Being junior you will get 10 days off, and you will be sent all over the system. I’ve heard HOM referred to as; Home Base and Home Basing. It’s just a designation on paper so to speak. It mimics what they do anyhow: TDY, or junior assigned which rolls into a forced out of base reserve, for any non-disclosed amount of time. The words are meaningless, as we don’t have a contract that clearly defines what these things are.

And you will be given very little written guidance from management as well. They’re petrified to comment to anything in a written format, because they suffer from what the medical community has termed, chicken $hit-itis.
