For this TDY the city of Myrtle Beach is providing two bedroom/two bathroom condos to Allegiant as part of the "deal" to get Allegiant to fly in there this summer. |

The $1/hr per diem doesn't sound good obviously, but your own room and own bath doesn't sound bad at all. Though still inadequate, if the condo has a fully furnished kitchen, you will at least not spend as much in food if you are able to buy some groceries for yourself.

Wise move. The best reason to come to G4 is the 320 type. Then go shop that over at Spirit, JetBlue etc. Of course that entails using G4 as a stepping-stone, which is a good move, if you need it. But, if you are able to bypass a lateral progression then, definitely don’t come here. G4 is not a career, it’s a job. From where I sit there are only two ways this company becomes a career: Job action, via a lock out. Or we get merged with a better company. It’s an oddball operation that really doesn’t fit any other place well. So, I think the latter is unlikely. A contract will only make things better, possibly even eliminating TDY’s by making them cost prohibitive for the company. Things like that will improve. But, the first contract here is going to be ugly and hard fought. Even after a contract is eventually signed, we will still be bottom of the pack for pay and quality of life. Then it will be a compliance problem. G4 management will never stop actively trying to circumvent it, with the help of their third party vendor; Ford & Harrison. It’s in their “DNA”. Even with a contract in place, it will be difficult to describe G4 as a career destination. |

This is true. But, it has been difficult to use this mantra the last 3 years or so. Now, the TDY’s are here to stay, according to our senatorial leader, who is from “Brand X”. Strange thing, our good senator likes to compare us to “Brand X”, a legacy airline by the way. “We had TDY’s at Brand X”. The inference is, were an airline like “Brand X”, so you guys just gotta deal. Interesting comparison by our good senator. Were an “Airline” like he had it at “Brand X”, and not a travel company, when it suits his needs. Forget the fact that “Brand X” had a contract at least commensurate with other “Brand X’s”. |
I'd kind of like to know who "Brand X" is. I've never heard of a major airline that did TDYs. I thought that was just a military thing.
