But let's be quick to say the second crew didn't do everything by the book?

 

It's logical to assume that it's the pilots fault. After all, Allegiant has such a stellar track record of maintenance reliability and expertise. Tragic that in the wake of the worst maintenance practices in the industry, some pilots are so quick to point the finger at each other. This, in spite of the fact that the pilots have saved the company's bacon on countless occasions

Would be nice to know why an airplane couldn't climb away from an engine failure, and yes it was a failed engine not merely an ECAM.

 

I haven't heard how it "couldn't climb away from an engine failure" They crew executed a go around and was able to later land on one engine right? Also I have seen pics of the failed engine. It was NOT an ecam...think large chunks of metal in the exhaust cone...

 

Yes they made it but initial climb/acceleration performance was lacking......why this was so I have not heard.

 

Barely climbing out at 200 FPM and could not take a turn to avoid PHX airspace because they had to wait for acceleration altitude climbing out on a de-rated engine (they find out later). Serious sh!t.

 

Not saying that 200fpm is good. But going into PHX airspace off of IWA below EFCA is hard to do. You'd run into Falcon (FFZ) airspace first before you hit PHX

 

Well, the East Coast side of the operation sure took it in the shorts yesterday & today!!
