Lock-ins shall become effective as follows:
a. A lock-in shall not commence prior to the effective date of the award.
b. A pilot who completes required training prior to the effective date of an award shall begin any applicable lock-in on the effective date of such award.
c. A pilot who completes required training after the effective date of an award shall begin any applicable lock-in on the first day of the contractual month following the completion of training, but no later than the first day of the second (2nd) contractual month following the commencement of training.
d. Any lock-in required for a pilot who has been withheld, shall begin when the pilot's period of withholding ceases, irrespective of when the pilot trains.

This is my 5th 121 airline and I have never had a company come out and state that #1 radio is for ATC only.

Generally you always put ATC on #1 but the places I've been consider ramp as a controlled freq. It's not company or mx or ops or what have you. Also some places ramp is a controller function so then you have ground on #1 and ramp on #2 and you're monitoring both? WTF?
I understand the thought process behind putting ramp on #2 in places like LAX which is what I always did but generally most places it's better on #1 as the CA is listening to that freq already and moving it to #2 removes an additional person from hearing what is going on. Just weird.

LAA guys have always done this because most of their Hubs require early ramp calls and approaching your spot calls. Those Captains are used to it and monitor what they want, knowing ramp is in 2. LUS hubs don't operate that way, so we always used 1 unless we are in DFW,LGA etc.
Now that we fly together it makes sense to standardize this. We will get used to it and forget about it in a couple months.
Just waiting to see if they force us to use the intercom on the Airbus...then you'll really see a $h!t fit out of this group! Right now I just do what the Capt prefers (which is no intercom 99.99% of the time in CLT).

You got me? I'm an LUS guy and I can't figure out why everyone is getting bent out of shape on this one. It's not a hard concept. Common sense should also be applied.

Just a fact of life. Kids put crayons up their noses and pilots argue over insignificant stupid stuff. If you think this Number 2 radio stuff is silly, let me tell you about my teenage daughter is "foot stomping" passionate about.

There is no legitimate reason for that nonsense-and in many ways, it just creates misunderstanding.
-Probably just done so some idiot at the G.O. Can tell his golf buddies that he made everyone do something his way.
