Front loading the days off is not good, you’ll end up probably working more due to always being in the lowest group. YMMV.
If I want weekends off, I just do 5 on 2 off, etc. The downside to these scenarios, (and what keeps most pilots from doing it) is that you could end up working the whole block. That really bothers some guys, but I don’t care that much and it’s rarely happened to me.

Not 16-17 straight, but 6 on 1 off and repeat as needed then the rest of the month off. You have to comply with FAR rules. On reserve, one can bid 6 on 1 off, 6 on 2 off, 6 on rest of the month off, that’s actually my preferred bid, when I sit reserve. I’ve done both of these scenarios.

6 on 1 off with line bidding in PBS is not possible. It’s built into the software and will not allow 1 DFP following a work block of 6 days on....you have to comply with FAR 117 AND PBS software rules. There is a chart in the PBS manual that shows what I am talking about...

Its all seniority driven from what I can tell. Low man on the totem pole is getting 90hr line in the high months (summer, December) which is not going to be more than 17days because of ACD. Once you get a little bit more seniority you get lines with less hours/days. Doesnt matter much either way if you ask me, I can generally reduce/improve my schedule if I want via trip trading and post pbs award manuevering.
