We have no contractual protections, all FAR-max.

You have to pass the contract to see what’s in it.....

The FAA already has screwed up the 737 Max oversight. They need to be challenged on this. They are not worth anything in oversight anymore. They always cede to managements wishes. Every pilot should write congress. ( not that they are up to anything either) but some congressman might want the press.
I’m guessing this will go senior as it’s a super high time turn. I’m also guessing that many of such said senior folk prefer this as they don’t have to dhd in the back one of the two legs.

Correct....it’s on a per case basis, special rest provisions are incorporated. It’s primarily a factor when you have to de-ice on the outbound leg....can’t take much delay if the trip is blocked at 8:15...they had several instances of cancelling down in SJU due to exceeding The 9 hr 117 limit....this gives them 15 mins of breathing room.

That just sounds like they are just too cheap to staff it properly.

Perhaps this is a stupid question but I'll ask anyway. Couldn't AA just augment the crew and buy more time?

Yes sir they could. We’re doing the opposition-research for them. Only planes that have been on it are the 75/76 and 330.

I bid these trips to fly down, and DH back. It's an awesome deal. Although the DH down to fly back is the least desirable.
It's just not worth trying to do with one crew. The passenger anger/ expense factor is just too high on an extensive snow delay then cancel.

APA is working on it. Unfortunately, the contract language isn’t as crystal clear as it should be. Keep these types of things in mind when it’s time for vote for a contract.
