So everyone has really junior CAs now that’s no longer a shocker like it was when DL first started this shift.
so now the question needs to be when can I be a line holding CA?
I was hired at UA in 2013:
I can hold one of the most Junior lines as a CA in EWR/SFO 320.
i can hold CA in EWR/DCA/SFO 320 and EWR/DCA/SFO/LAX 737.
holding junior CA is great but how long do you have to suck reserve eggs? A lot of pilots at majors won’t bid up until they are a solid line holder making forward progress in the seat difficult. Iv held CA for a little over a year now and am just at the point of junior crappy line.

Got DCA a year later, sat reserve 7 months (but sitting reserve at home) and been holding a line since then. Today I’m at 68% and almost getting weekends off plus some holidays. Been moving up nicely since quite a few senior DCA 737 CAs keep bidding up to Phl and NYC WB every bid run.

depends on the base and seat. I took first available upgrade system wide just because I needed a change. Luckily, When I first upgraded back in 2017 (only took me 17 years, yeehaw!) it was just up the road in LGA 737. Only sat reserve 3 months then held a line.

Tryin to understand why it seems a lot of people dislike reserve whilst living in base. Is it not a good deal? I’m new here, but other than wondering if ur phone is going to ring, isn’t it “usually” a really good deal?

If the phone hasn’t rung by 8am you’re pretty much done for the day

is that true? I’m trying to figure the math on that one. Say someone was hired at 25 years old. They would need 11,000-12,000 pilots to retire in 9 years to be the bottom group IV captain at 34 years old. In 9 years we are projecting 6-7,000 retirements correct? 34 seems like a stretch, 40 years old seems very likely.
