Demand is what drives an airline. Museums, sports area, and schools are closing threw out Europe. If that happens here and people stop flying because of the virus worries it won’t matter how many people are retiring. The airlines aren’t going to loose money flying empty planes. I would want to sit it out the next couple of weeks/month before jumping to any another carrier who had a history of furloughing. With virus just starting to hit us on the west coast and now East coast it’s too early to see how it’s going affect the economy, airlines and travel in general.

Any insight or wild guess if AA is reconsidering to cancel or postpone future classes? I believe there are 3 starting in March.

If you have concerns I’m sure AA would understand. It’s a reasonable concern. You could ask them to defer your class date. I’d bet that given the circumstances they’d work with you.

And please remember that the 612 retirements for 2020 are based on March 1st through the end of the year. Another 100 or so have already retired so far this year. That number decreases as we progress through the year as people actually do retire.

Not quite same number of retirements. AA shows ~770 and UA ~ 350 for 2020.

Ah ok, that's what I get for not looking it up.

I’d be absolutely shocked to see any disruption in hiring. They’re barely keeping up as it is. I think this will be a small speed bump in the long run.

Yes, I was going to put that in the original post, but I figured it would be confusing, so I just put 612 for 2020. Thank you.

When did you interview? Anyone know how long between CJO and class date it's being right now?
Thanks!
