Thanks. Really surprised that 500+ 64 year olds stuck around.

Everybody that took the permanent leave was over 62, so a couple of hundred less each of the next three years, then no change.

I really question guys who could have received 50hrs and full benefits to sit home and retire but are choosing to go to work. If a guy normally gets 75hrs in a month he is now working 75hrs to get an additional 25hrs in pay over what he could have received.
Same with senior NB guys, who are in no danger of getting furloughed on 1 Oct, who didn't bid for a paid LOA, working 75 hrs to get an additional 20hrs of pay.
My CPT yesterday is a senior NB CPT and I asked how long his LOA was and he replied "I didnt apply for one, I have a lot of bills to pay". This is a guy who has been a CPT at AA for at least the last 10 years, dude shouldn't have any bills.
Losers, all of them.
Anyways, I will be enjoying my 55hrs and not even thinking about work.

I'm on the outside looking in, so maybe there's something I don't know, but if AA were to declare BK, how would the permanent leaves be affected? This may be something that weighs on the minds of those eligible.

That would be entirely up to the bankruptcy judge. He/She is charged with doing whatever is in the best interest of long-term viability of a debtor. In my opinion, the long-term viability of AA would not include maintaining "black hole" contracts, with unsecured creditors, (i.e. the VPLOA folks).

I would expect the judge to cancel those contracts and not allow those pilots to return, within the same status, (i.e. 12+ year, left seat pay).

In my opinion, it's a gamble for anyone to take a VPLOA, especially if they have a small next egg and a lot of bills to pay.

They are still on the seniority list.

I’d imagine if the LOAs were vacated in BK they’d just go back to active status.

55 free vs 75 worked is a pretty straightforward choice but might not be the correct comparison

maybe guys have strategies to bid reserve such that it’s 75 hours free. Maybe they’re already working 30 hours for 85 hours pay
