Yet OTS folks have extreme screening requirements.. almost impossible to get a call even with 10 times the variety and value of qualifications.

Yes sir, and that is the “tit-for-tat” agreement between wholly owned pilot applicants and AAG that was made when a wholly owned pilot agreed to show up for day 1 of indoc at one of the regionals. In exchange for keeping AAGs wholly owned staffed while working for lower wages under a persisting bankruptcy contract and generally sub-par treatment and QOL, we are given relief from having to compete with OTS. It’s a strategy and benefit that is potentially open to anyone. In other words, flow throughs have “seen some pain”. Buy’em a GD cuppa Joe for chryssakes (intentionally misspelled, grammar police). I know you know this, just felt therapeutic to chime in. My flow parole is in 6 months.

Just fingerprinting and DT so far.

Per the VP of Flight- “intend to hire 350 new pilots by the end of year and now anticipate hiring more than 1000 pilots in 2022”.

No mention of if those pilots will be employed at AA or JetBlue… ha?

Tjeff 07-21-2021 10:20 AM

Anyone know when the first class date is in September?

September 22nd

Tjeff 07-21-2021 10:33 AM

That is officially the first class? I know flows are flowing that class but there was typically 2 classes a month.

That’s all the information we have about our next class, no word on an earlier class.

Pilot hiring resumes, additional hiring planned for 2022

Ahead of tomorrow’s second-quarter financial results, Doug and Robert recently gave analysts and our team a forecast of what we can expect. And the news is promising. As an airline, our revenue and expense performance for the quarter came in better than expected. As an industry, travel demand is returning. Though the numbers aren’t at 2019 levels and the demand itself looks different right now, it’s the path to recovery we’ve all been focused on.

Beyond our more immediate recovery efforts, our attention is also on our long-term future, building American to thrive forever and our pilots are key to that. I’m glad to share that our previous hiring expectations are increasing — we intend to hire 350 new pilots by the end of year and now anticipate hiring more than 1,000 pilots in 2022.

New hire classes will resume in September and will include flow from Envoy, Piedmont and PSA, as well as pilots who were hired at the onset of the pandemic, but were idled as we paused our recruiting and hiring efforts. Though we were limited in pilot growth this past year, we are now moving full speed ahead with plans to continue recruiting, hiring and training the best and most diverse pilots in the business. The online application for new hire pilots opens this Friday, July 23 and can be accessed at aa.pilotcredentials.com.

As the pace of hiring ramps up, our ask of you is to look for opportunities to mentor these pilots who will be joining our ranks very soon. Nobody knows better what it takes to be an American Airlines pilot than the best aviators in the world. Thanks for your continued leadership this past year and for everything you do every day to deliver and care for our customers and colleagues.

That’s odd I would’ve thought they’d be all over it. Saw a crew news recently with the head of pilot recruitment. She gave out an email address and said please send recs, we’re looking for people. Maybe they just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

TransWorld 07-21-2021 05:29 PM

350 and 1,000+ are slightly higher rates than 2018, which had been the AA record.

You have an email reminder about that new hire survey right? It’s from the Managing Director of Pilot Recruitment, Capt. LC. There’s an email address within that email. I’m assuming you can use that for recommendations.

Submit recs on aapilotcredentials. Click on the recommendations tab. I've been putting them in for folks for a nominal fee..

Are saying that military hires have the propensity to "captain" from the right seat? That's a pretty interesting comment.

I certainly haven't found that to be the case at all - I've enjoyed flying with the military guys every bit as much as the civilian dudes. The academy F-16 guys tend to be more uptight than the others, but that's about the only thing I've noticed. :)

OP was talking about pilots who have had management experience. At least that's how I read it.

Ah... ok. Airline Management experience I take it. I would imagine most of us military dudes/dudets are just glad to be here. I honestly enjoy getting paid to sit in the right seat with less responsibility. Definitely no desire to co-captain here...

But instead, they keep moving the goal posts with these asinine qualifiers. Not everyone gets to be a management pilot. Those who think you just apply and get those jobs have probably never held them. On most properties, you have to kiss a lot of ass and play golf or drink with the right people to get those jobs. Some people are locked out of this jobs because of who they are, or because they don't look like the people doing the hiring. So they're worthless things to grade people on. It doesn't give you better pilots, it gives you pilots who the day they get off probation, start captaining from the right seat. Who wants to spend 4 days with that? I'd rather have the line pilot who moves the freight.

And before someone hands me sour grapes, I'm not looking for a job, I'm good where I am. Just something I've noticed after decades in this industry.

This is nearly perfect circular logic.

How you call them, three and a half or four and a half strips pilot in command?
I will always say.
Flying is the easiest , rewarding job I have ever have, of course training, recurrent, line check, difficult people to fly ,you name it,etc bring little stress to me.
The most difficult job with the right people will be the easiest job to do.
The most easiest job with the difficult people will be tourtre,my few cents.

Does the new pilot skills test give you a pass/fail or does it just accept how you've done and make a behind the scenes score/determination?

It just showed up. It's at the bottom of the navigation bar on the left side of the screen underneath "References". I'm hearing it's only showing up on desktops though. Not mobile devices.

Has anyone taken this new test yet? I'm assuming they changed it.

mketch11 07-24-2021 01:56 PM

Haven’t taken it yet but it wasn’t showing up on an iPad or desktop until I hit the refresh button. Showing on both now

I took mine yesterday. It’s all cognitive stuff. Nothing on there struck me as something I could have studied for. Some of the questions give immediate feedback if you chose the right or wrong answer but there was no pass/fail at the end of each section or the end of the entire test.

Did you get a green check mark on the pilot skills test after completing it?

My “checklist” section doesn’t show an area for the skills test to be checked off. When I click on the pilot skills test tab and go to the portal, that’s where it says “thank you for completing this assessment.” Would it not being in the summary section mean something bad?

Same here.

Not necessarily. I also don't show it. Maybe others can confirm if they show it on their checklist section or not.

Looking for help.

I have completed the requirements "American Pilot Credentials."

Is there anywhere else I need to submit an application for employment? Such as a general application through the American Airlines website?

Is filing out AA credentials where the hiring team recruits from, or is there an application window much like Southwest where you must visit a specific portal?

My pilot credentials still has bugs in it. It wont save my alternate email and my are you a veteran question. Once you log out and log back in, it disappears..

AllYourBaseAreB 07-25-2021 07:46 AM

Welcome to American, where technical “glitches” are considered features by management. Just like how hard it is to submit an expense report or get paid for your vaccines….

How is the commute to Chicago from DTW?
Is it a good QOL?

It saves. The bug is the field goes blank. If you go to print profile, it'll show.

As long as you have all the green checkmarks, you complete your Pilot Skill Aptitude Test and having your profile “published” that should be good to go!
