It’s not just about preventing crew members from “trying to kill people”. If it comes up again in class tell your classmates that it’s much more than that. You see when one gains more perspective from actually working in the airline industry they will likely see that people are not to be trusted. Security is a good thing. We can keep our industry safer AND reduce the amount of shady behavior all while allowing crew members to get to their airplanes quicker in the morning instead of waiting a few extra minutes of screening. Everyone in the industry gets this. You will too if you decide to go into this career someday.

Were they trying to kill people with their razor blades, leather mans and guns? Somehow a so called prohibited item makes you a criminal. If a pilot goes into a cockpit how hard is it for him/her to crash the airplane. Can an FSDO or police office go bonkers and kill everyone, or are they to pure for that? You trust your government in this day and age? The one that just gave billions in arms to the taliban. I believe the crazy ones are you that believe “trust but verify” is the best answer.
im done with this thread. Looking for the day when automation takes over and there are no pilots to fly. Sooner than you think.
do you only trust uniformed cops or

No, they weren't trying to kill anybody; but that isn't the point either. Nor were they a criminal charged with any crime. The item was removed and the crew members continued on their way from what I saw. They were however bringing prohibited items onto the plane. Would the several instances of crew members acting out each year have been different if they'd have been armed?
Did you know that a new driver (golf club) is prohibited onboard despite having a crash axe within arms reach.
That's ok though, much like the rest of our society, the "facade" of safety or improvement is much more important than real tangible improvements. Otherwise they wouldn't allow planes to be introduced and remodeled without a secondary cockpit barrier.

If they wanted to be armed, they could have with a crash axe!

I got randomly selected for screening today at KCM. Three crews showed up approximately the same time. My crew was third, I was at the back of the line. I was the only one to get randomly selected. As soon as I did, I kid you not, my thoughts immediately were back to this thread, and I suddenly had clarity. I had been wronged, I was no threat yet I had to be the one randomly selected to back pedal and go to the front of the pre-check security line. I tried not to show my disdain, put on a brave face, and told my crew not to wait for me. After I got screened I reverted back to my training and the IMSAFE checklist. I knew I needed to relax and let my very real perception of being bullied by the TSA subside before my flight, so I parked myself in line at Starbucks. I told myself that I needed to take my attitude and adjust it, HARD, by a ordering a cafe mocha (with whip and chocolate drizzle). My training had worked. I calmed down, but the damage was done and it changed me. Enough of this harassment. I too, now advocate for ONE LIST, ONE GROUP OF PILOTS so that this never has to happen to good crew members such as myself again. It all makes sense now. I’ve been background checked, for Pete’s sake. Let me be free! Sometimes it takes an event and a little experience to change a person. I was naive. Now I know better.
Full disclosure, the line at Starbucks was only 9 in cue.
