OK. Just want to point out that you’re not giving up a day for business or better. You’re giving up a day for a different chance at business or better.

It's a gamble, are you willing to give up a day of your trip on a roll of dice? I was number one D1 on a half full transcon that had nearly every first class seat open the day before. When I walked up to the gate the agent was yelling "nonrevs, don't expect to get first class!". I sat in the back.

you can roll to the next flight and keep your checkin time if you don’t get businesses

Ok, maybe this is the way to go. Just tell the gate agent that we don’t want main or just don’t get on?

Yeah you can refuse and have them roll you to the next flight.

It has to be THE next flight. That could be 3 hours or 3 days

If it's international, you can't do this if you have a checked bag. But yeah, if you're traveling with carryon only, this is the way I would do it. Still no guarantee that giving up a day of your trip gets you on.

Curious for those who ve done it, do you get a new check in time or do you get to keep your original time like a roll over and are automatically the highest D1 on the next flight?

You keep your time if the agent rolls you correctly.

I'm pretty sure that if you change any part of the routing/destination you get a new check in time which makes the point mute to me. I mean at that point all you have to do is not answer the call, delete the listing, and make a new listing which has the same result.
