It’s more akin to the use of mil leave. Bid back to back four days or whatever in PBS, knowing they’ll put 2-3 days of PU over the end of the first trip and start of the second. Do that every week of the month, every month. Submit the PU days, the trips touching them (so all of their trips) drop. They still “work” the PU days doing whatever it is the NC does (apparently not much). They’re now a free agent for the rest of the month on their non-PU days, and can pick up all the premium they can.
Shady? Maybe. Unethical? Maybe. Legal? Yep.
People would be a lot less ****ed about it if they were negotiating for the entire pilot group and not for themselves, their wide body CA cronies, and their BOS/ORD/LGA BoD rep buddies.

Over 6,200 pilots here are 55 or older. According to the "Crew Age Per Fleet" page on AApilots, there are 13,298 pilots, so this represents about 47% of the pilot group. If every one of them voted yes, we're looking at 53/47 in the "no" favor, but I think it's going to be a lot closer than we all think. Yes, CKA's are all for this NOW. They don't care about QOL improvements and neither do most over 60. All of the pilots who spent 25 years in the right seat don't care about QOL right now. It's make up time for them as relatively new Captains. They don't care about the people who are upgrading in less than 4 years and getting their asses handed to them on reserve because they didn't get that opportunity. They want more money NOW.
