The article is inaccurate with the data. Only 53% of “eligible” pilots participated in the survey.

There needs to be more input from the entire pilot group for a better count of who is and isn’t interested.

It's still a statement. Only an APA insider or apologist would summarily dismiss this. There's no denying it's a movement now and it's only going to keep gaining momentum as the APA board trips over themselves.

Maybe, in the end just need to deliver what the pilots need and have needed for so long. Regardless of APA or ALPA

Funny some Allegiant guy is a Self proclaimed expert of the ongoing’s at AA and APA . Reading APC forums doesn’t mean you know anything about what’s going on here.

He's right, though. The sentiment among our pilots is that APA is dysfunctional, has been for a long, LONG time, and is a lost cause. Most pilots I speak with agree it's time for us to move to ALPA. The holdup is our own union leadership stonewalling. How have you not noticed this, considering you work here?

This begs the question, is APA dysfunctional because it’s APA, or because of those in the union leadership? That same union leadership doesn’t want ALPA, or they don’t want to lose their position? Seems like some of the problem has been union reps specifically identified as those voting FOR the AIP. Don’t know enough about the rest of the players, yet. Would it make a difference if those same people had ALPA behind their title instead of APA? Doesn’t sound like it. It sounds like individual names in front of the title, not the titles themselves that are the problem.

And before anyone says I don’t work there either, I DON’T. But I DO have a vested interest in the contract because I WILL be there, at this rate, probably before a new contract is in place, which is why I ask the question.

IMHO, part of the problem is how APA elects its officials. Pilots in general seem to think that it’s great that they get to directly elect the APA President, except then you have two factions of elected governance: the president and the board. It creates and fosters a system of dysfunction from the get-go.

ALPA’s system of having the MEC Chair elected by and working for the LEC reps is simply a better system. It isn’t perfect, and this style of democracy is still messy like any democratic system, but it’s better than what the APA has.

A dysfunction much like our Senate, Congress and President, but without Judicial system as a check and balance.

Thanks for that explanation.

But also, much like the US government, when you have idiots elect idiots, you get what you ask for.

Maybe that’s a little harsh and simplistic. I suppose many who would do well in the job won’t do it and those who do don’t show their true colors until after being elected. But that doesn’t seem to stop many for voting for them again.

Too soon after the US elections??

Let's stop with the manipulation of words. Nobody was asked if we want APA to merge with ALPA. We were asked "To what extent do you favor or oppose the APA Board of Directors exploring a possible merger with ALPA?". That is a huge difference.
The headline here is that 67% of 53% of AA pilots are mostly or strongly in favor of the BoD exploring a possible merger.
Nobody is committed to anything. We just want to ask questions and get more information at this point.
