The trade off is that as PF you don't have to state the speed of each flap setting. I prefer it the new way.

that might be better for the 737, it's terrible for the Airbus. The data even showed that there were next to none when it came to flap over speeds on extensions. Most flap overspeeds were fly-thru. I also agree that configuration changes should be verfied by the PM with a response, kind of like we do with altitude changes with ATC....but again like others have said fly a boeing like a boeing and a Bus like a Bus.

Nothing to add expect the best comment about all this I've seen thus far:

"Are the 737 guys going to add a 'retard' callout?"

Yes, to reduce thrust to idle on landing.

Yes. It “displays” the same thing that the Airbus “announces”.. but for different reasons. The Airbus announces it to remind the pilots to pull back the throttles, oops I mean thrust levers, for landing, since they are in the CL detent for the whole flight regime.

The 737 simply displays it on the FMA to let the pilots know the throttles are coming back to idle on their own (they go to idle at 26’ RA in the flare.) This message is also displayed when the aircraft is capturing the VNAV path on an idle descent (displayed in the pic above) or when you hit Level Change and the throttles come back. Basically anytime they are coming back to idle that message is displayed.

Default Airbus is an Airbus

On the Airbus, the PF sets either TOGA OR FLEX and the PM states “Thrust Set”.

But, during a Go-Around, PF sets TOGA and the PM will state “TOGA set”, then “Climb Set” if the PF chooses to do a soft Go-around. Just a little inconsistent, should’ve left it alone!
