Default New AOM changes

How’s everyone doing on these? We took quite a few delays on Jan 3 as everyone sorted this out under the new “training by bulletin” mantra.
Also a story of a CA being removed by a CLT CP from his trip when he delayed his flight over this stuff. Absolutely unreal.
I’m not against some of these changes, if anything it’s AA catching up to the rest of the industry practices. But why oh why does the PF do the sterile chime now while the PM does the prepare for landing PA? Keep them both PM duties. Stupid.
I hear the TOGA/GA changes on the Airbus are pretty drastic. I also hear that the company is trying to “Boeing-ize” the Airbus which is also dumb.. two totally different aircraft.
Curious to know what others think.

Well they're also trying to "Airbusize" the Boeing. "Speed Verified" before every flap setting? Do you know how many flap settings there are on the 737? Brief the TOD? But it starts down on its own!

Sounds like a great time to extend the flaps setting by setting.

“Speed verified” is most definitely NOT an Airbus thing. That’s brand new to us too. It’s been a while since I flew the 737, but I seem to recall saying “verified” as the PM after the PF said something like “below 240, flaps 1”, then I selected flaps 1.

in the Bus we would just repeat the call, so “Flaps 2”, “flaps 2”, (select flaps 2).

And yes!!! A thousand times yes to wtf were they thinking when they split up who does the Prepare for landing PA and who does the chime?! It’s like a comedy show in there during every descent through 10k AFL.

Our Go-around has been messed with a bit, but we’ll get used to it soon enough, and no, we will not fall out of the sky if we select flaps up one notch immediately, as one alarmist on The Line said. That elicited a huge eye roll on my part when I read that. But then again, those twenty or so clowns on there do that regularly.

the landing rollout has WAY too much chatter now.

This is new for the Airbus too. We checked the speed then selected. Didn’t verbalize it. I think it’s from the MD80. We verbally verified the speed. Makes sense to follow the procedures on the state of the art Mad Dog 80. Next revision will include “rudder pedals and seats” on the before start check list. When are they putting the mechanical checklist in the Airbus?

we need term limits on all management pilots. Clueless in the cubicle. That ding dong in CLT that removed the Captain will never live it down. Supposedly volunteered to conduct DEB class in DFW and got fast tracked to management with very little experience. He will be in management until he retires or gets fired. They should send him back to the line but that won’t happen. I have no idea who he is but he made his bed and will now have to sleep in it.

I haven’t flown yet with the new procedures. Sounds like a lot to learn.
I couldn’t find the QRH revision last time I was there.

I agree with you. A Boeing is a Boeing and a bus a bus. A have a copy of the Airbus FCOM and some new procedures contradict the Airbus FCOM.
I don't know anything about the 73 (except being left behind due to weight issues), but do you not verify a configuration change? Why is the flap and gear confirmation call being omitted? I was taught on every aircraft and operator to always confirm a configuration change.
"Thrust Set" bothers me, too. I would like to get a confirmation what trust setting is being set.
What's next? Are we going to Embraer-ing call outs because a lot of flows are coming from Envoy?
Where is the FAA in all this?

We now verify the flap change with “Flaps 1” being called out and “speed verified” as the answer. Previously it was “below 240, Flaps 1”…. “Verified.”

“Thrust set” has always been one of our call outs, along with the N1 value.

As to where the FAA is. In AA’s pockets apparently. How they allowed this is anyone’s guess

Time to write Washington or make calls. Maybe we're all wearing skirts in the near future to align for gender harmonization.

I mean, I would be okay with tasteful kilts in the summer in Dallas when it seems half the fleet has the APU deferred and the AC in the terminal can't keep up with the humidity...
