DFW has gotten really expensive, too. Not going to find anything in a decent area for less than 400k

If I were moving to cover DFW, I’d look just north of the Red River. A bit of a drive but still well within reason for SC reserve to DFW. Cheaper real estate, lower property tax, and I hear OK has recently gotten rid of their state income tax. Probably not for you if you prefer an urban setting given there isn’t much in the way of “cities” there but if you prefer a quieter and more rural or small town setting, should be a LOT cheaper.

I did wonder how they’d make up the revenue when he said it (ie, property taxes or sales taxes… gotta collect somehow).

As you said…they will get the money one way or another…income tax or property/sales tax. The difference is that if you’re a very high wage earner and live in a modest home…you pay far less overall taxes in a place like TX than OK at this time.

There is no mention of income tax being abolished in OK. Current rate is 4.75% for income over 12.2k(7.2k for single filers).

From a renter’s perspective DFW seems like the better deal. However when it comes to home owning it’s damn close. Closer than one would have thought when it’s all said and done. The TX property taxes are easily twice what I thought they were.
