How much time does AA really want ?

I am retired Air Force. Spent my last few years on a desk, then pursued a different career for awhile, so it's been 15 years since I was in more than a GA cockpit. I have over 3,500 of military time (about equal thirds SIC, PIC and IP), all turbine time. I have my ATP and 757/767-type rating, as my last gig was flying a 757 for the Air Force. I have a Masters and PhD, great check ride reports and performance reviews. My question is what would I have to do to get on with a legacy carrier at this point? I am 52-years old if that matters...

Put in your app!. I am on terminal from the Air Force right now. While it hasn’t been 15 years, I haven’t flown in 4 years due to non-flying assignments and wasn’t an issue. I got an interview and CJO on the same day. There was another retired Marine who had been out a while in our group and he hadn’t flown since 2001 interviewed. He got sent to a review board after the interview, not sure if he got a CJO or not. They told us during the interview that they just hired a guy who was 61. Think about it the worse they can do is say no thanks.

I've been at AA for decades. I could probably drop my 10k hours and multiple type ratings on an application at United and never get a call back despite the "pilot shortage"

If you do this long enough, you'll realize that time and experience aren't the keys to unlocking the interview invite or job offer.

You then clearly don’t understand today’s hiring, and obviously have been out of that game for decades. If you dropped your app at UA or DL you would have an interview scheduled within a few weeks.

If you aren't getting a call get out and go to the next hiring conference. (And PAY for interview prep, regardless of what anyone says) Face time matters. Preparation matters. Best of luck!

I chose to not buy any app or interview prep. If you are detail oriented and are passionate about your personal success, then there is ample enough information on the internet. HR normally attends the meet and greets and will review your app for free. Good luck!

3500 TT, 2000 PIC (mostly instructor time), 920 Turbine, MEI, ~200 TPIC, Masters degree, last 5 years Part 91. Two checkride busts from my flight training days. I left a regional prior to completing IOE 10 years and two type ratings ago - still no bites for me since dropping my apps 4 months ago. So to answer the OP, I don’t know.
