Did I read here that a EMB RJ Captain cannot afford to go to work for USAir?
I flew for a regional for 10 years. I heard that hogwash all the time. And we lived in a very low cost of living city.
The egos I used to hear from were nauseating.
Go look at the American MOU info on APC home page. And then tell me you cannot afford to come to work at AA/UsAir.
I expect the following:
Well I earn 200% premium as an RJ Captain and selling my vacation back I always earn more than a major co-pilot! Besides I'm a Captain, I dont' want to sling gear and have to commute from my garden spot in Timbuk2. Besides major airlines unions have outlived their relevance and my career choice of a regional was a great decision for me. I also have a big house payment and my leased Honda is $199. a month. So I just couldn't make it on 1st year pay.

Just as long as they don't expect me to actually care about their self-induced problems.

I have 16 years at eagle( upper middle of the road). I have been busting my ass the last two years making crazy money here at Eagle so that I can transition over to AA. I am not married and have no children (so no life).
The last two years I have timed out for the year at 1000 hour by December 10th or so. I'm 45 and love the fact that I can kick ass to make coin or sit at home with days off (which i elect not to). When people say its should be easy to transition, just suck it up the first year!?!? This is not me comparing D(I)ck size... I made $163k in 2011 and $150k 2012... I don't want to bust my ass this much in my senior years for that kind of cash (I'm already burning out). But let's be clear, it's going to take me more then 4 years at AA till I'm at that level again even trying to get 96 hours a month. That's with the hope that everything moves as planned! Which nobody knows for sure. I believe that these next 5 years for pilots is either going to make the industry as a pilot carrier great or spiral down to buss driver (a bit extreme but you get me). We need to stay strong regarding SCOPE /pay/work rules !! It's that simple ... Good luck everyone

Flow for Eagle to US Airways side?
I don't see that happening. USAPA will never allow it. We at PSA have been trying to get that for years without any luck at all.
However, if Eagle does achieve that, they better darn well give it to PSA as well.

As for my particular situation, I'm still on first wife of 28 yrs, empty nesting (though grandkids are the bomb!), and have two supplemental sources of income besides my flying job and wife's VA job (25 yrs.). My car is paid for and my farm almost is.
Virtually all my friends will tell you I have no pride so all that is left is that US's pay sucks.
I will make it to a major in my last 15 yrs, but it WON'T be US- for SO many reasons, the first of which is that I didn't apply.
If its working for you I'm happy for you. Really.

I never said I couldn't afford to go to work for AA. Or UAL (better) or DAL (best). If you want to talk about sweatshop wages, go take a look at US starting pay. The fact that half of all regional FOs make more is disgusting.

All new hire pilots are getting a signing bonus as well—those hired before March 2012 get the full signing bonus.

Does first-year pay suck? Absolutely, however, 2nd year on the little Bus, I'll be making more than I did as a 9th year RJ Captain. I have no regrets about the move.
I think the "I can't afford it" excuse is covering up for other things. You plan ahead and make sacrifices for a year. I wonder if it isn't something else. I'm sure there were guys I have flown with that couldn't handle being an FO again.
