AA reserve question

AA reserve question
Obviously we don't know what the joint contract will say but I'm assuming it will be very similar to what American currently has. Is it possible to sit reserve with the current AA contract in a city other than your domicile? At US Air the ability to bid for a long call reserve line makes this easy, but I don't see how this works under the current AA system. If scheduling decides the day before if you are long or short call, it looks like you would spend more time than not just sitting in domicile waiting for the phone to ring. I know there is no set report time, but some of us live a little farther out than reasonable by ground transpo. Can any AA guys currently on reserve shed some light?

I think it'll be a mix. I highly doubt APA is willing to just accept AAs current system. Airways by far is better but still not close to say Delta's. There's a ton of room for improvement and none for just accepting AAs system.

To answer the original posters question, lots of people commute to reserve at AA. Be careful. It is extremely unpredictable right now. I'm 777 reserve and live in base 45 min's from airport and I feel "uneasy" It is chaotic.
I get the feeling the OP is USAir.
Right now each month you bid for your RAP (start period) coming off a day off at beginning of month. I chose the 0700
So today i'm off, I start at 0700 tomorrow. Next week coming off days off I again start at 0700. On my 2nd day i can proffer a different start time.
But, next months bid package for my airplane only has 1600 as start coming off days off. This was in no way agreed to.
I spoke with a panel member reserve committee yesterday, first email then phone.
Right now Reserve at AA is "Cut the Blue wire or Red?"
I'll get back to you tomorrow when things change again.
Sincerely,

I really hope they use the Airways reserve and build a new system from it. Here are a few things on our reserve, 1. Only short call is required to be in base and you bid long call or short call for the month (not on a daily basis), 2. When you get a trip, it is yours, and when you finish you get 10 hours off, and if it finishes on your last day thats it, your done, 3. Your position on the list is based on hours flown, no complex formula, no tricks, 4. by 1p the day before they assign all open flying to long calls first then short calls if not enough LC available, so if you get a trip you actually get more than 10 hours. But there is room for improvement, we could get 12-13 days off, the ability to bid for RAPs on a daily basis, 12 hours callouts for long call, or limits on Duty day from the beginning of the RAP, just to name a few...

When you get a trip it is, most definitely, not 'yours'. Scheduling can pull you off and reschedule at anytime but the report can not be earlier.
As a short call you must be available for reschedule at any point until you are released into your rest period prior to the trip. Meaning, if you were to get a trip at 1pm the day prior - daily could call 2 minutes later, pull you off and send you to the airport right now.
When you finish a trip you may get up to 16 hours off depending on the segments flown ( domestic v intl ).
Your position on the list has virtually nothing to do with hours flown. It is predicated first on days of availability which is going to get you 90 % of the time, then the reserve report time, then by seniority if 2 pilots have equal hours flown and lastly pay hours for the month vacation etc.
