The US system is very similar to Delta's. I can't imagine why an AA pilot wouldn't like it...

I don't think they understand it. It would be a shame to lose this based on uninformed pilots! ZEEEEERO stress in commuting.

Got it with the MOU. One of the side letters in the AA Green Book. Letter G or M, I think.

FOM Bulletin 19-13, page 21, para. Supplement G: Commuter Policy

(Its in the Pilot Supplemental Binder, the little blue book)

Cheers

There's zero stress with the AA system. Adhere to the commuter policy and go home it you don't make it.

If you list for the j/s(US system) and don't meet the standards of the commuter policy and the flight cancels you're not protected by the commuter policy.

We all now have the same commuter policy, if I understand it correctly. Regardless of why, if you can't commute you don't get paid for any missed flights. Missed commutes due tocCanceled flights are extremely rare, but senior pilot walk-ups could happen regularly.

Actually making it to work, to get paid, with a reserved jump seat is much better, IMHO. I cannot remember ever missing a commute to work and have only missed one commute home. The reserved jumpseat has worked well as far as I can tell.

While, we're on the subject.

I hope APA seeks to gain second priority access to FA jumpseats after company FAs.

Good question. At DAL when booking the JS "to Work" you can book it 5 days prior (I think). "From work" is 4 days prior and "personal use" is 2 days prior.

This system ensures people going to work have priority, followed by people trying to commute home, with personal JS use (essentially non-reving) at the back of the list. Once you make a reservation you are safe. If you do get bumped, for example by FAA personnel, you are given a positive space seat in the back.

Pilots can not reserve a FA JS but if its open we can use it.

Most guys really like our system.

I can see why guys who were junior for years under a seniority system don't want to give it up when they are senior but the reservation system works really well.

You can also have a hybrid - seniority type of reservation system where for example the system will accept reservations up to a week out and then award the JS to the most senior guy requesting it. You can have different lead times for different reasons. Going to work - 1 week. Returning from work - 4 days. Personal use 2 days etc. Or you can just group them all together and go by straight seniority for all jump-seat reservations.

The predictability of a reservation really improves the QOL for almost all commuters.
