After a year it will just droop, no more flying out, sorta like elephant ears. Try to hold the sitting down to a minimum while on duty. Management likes you to stand smartly in the concourse, answering all passenger questions.:D

Does this include making announcements in the gate area telling them how great we were as fighter pilots and that our co-pilot, even though he's just a civilian, will be well supervised?

Ehh.,...OK. well whenever I see those stripes I always mistake the pilots for mesa or republic.
Bottom line, we need something that looks good / classy AND is unique to the new AA. Kinda like delta... its a unique uniform and its distinguishing. When I shared a crash pad years ago my piedmont buddy looked just like mainline USAir. I would think that all USAir express carriers have the same uniform as mainline, minus of course the emblems. I always like the thick gray "Mexican General" AA stripes... Girth baby! ;-)) Anyway, I've heard several different rumors but charcoal gray is the one I've heard the most. Red stripes??? Shoot me now! |
Did I hear vest? Is there a vest involved?..... What a beating.. The elastic pants will be nice though. Elastic at the cuffs too?

I'm not a fan of CAs making PA's at the gate because I believe in the mystery theory. Pax revere pilots because we are not easily accessible, were behind a cockpit door, and there's a level of "unknown." When we make announcements at the gate we diminish that a bit. You will never see a Cathay or Singapore pilot do it precisely for the image that passengers expect when they fly on a premium carrier. We as pilots should remember that type of image that passengers love to fantasize about. With that being said, one on one engagement with pax is a huge deal, and a great thing. It really can improve their experience.

Aren't you a new guy at Delta? You do realize that management expects pilot engagement with the passengers, don't you. Captains are specifically required to make gate house PAs and/or PAs from the front of the cabin and to introduce themselves to each passenger in BE. All pilots are to engage passengers when the opportunity exists and to help all passengers, by answering questions, helping them find their way in the terminals, retrieving strollers, pushing wheelchairs and giving cockpit tours.
