I can't ever imagine not wearing boots. I wouldn't be caught dead going to a formal event or wedding without a nice pair of dress boots on. This would really suck if we had to wear shoelaces.

Had a wear tester on the JS yesterday. Uniforms will be wear tested beginning in January-March followed by a comment period. Currently the uniform is a Dark Gray. The jacket is indeed double breasted and the hat currently is mandatory. The biggest complaint mentioned, besides the double breasted Euro-Trash look (his words), are the pregnancy pants. The pants have a high waist and elastic in the sides that stretch. No mention of specific shoes.

Sounds lame. Maybe I should get Velcro shoes to wear with my stretchy pants.

I think something in a nice black suede pump. See, this what you get for jacking the DAL guys around about their "horse blanket". Bad Ju-Ju man...

I know man. Maybe I should have been bagging on you for your big paychecks and hot women.

By hot women you mean menopausal overtemps, right? Checks? Don't need no stinkin' checks... got PBGC.

As a current double breasted blazer wearer, be forewarned that it's nearly impossible to sit down with the blazer on without it looking awful. If you unbutton the blazer two huge flaps go flying out in front of you which looks even worse. The single breasted blazer is both classy and functional and looks good when you unbutton it to sit down. I'm surprised this hasn't surfaced in uniform testing.

I wouldn't sweat the hat and shoe rules. Those will eventually morph anyway based on where your domicile is. DFW will be a boot base and PHL and JFK will be no-hat bases :)

"A friend" I know went to DFW for the uniform fitting. This is what he said.
  • Someone specifically asked about hats. For the "wear test" they are mandatory, however the jury is still out on if the entire pilot group would have to wear them.
  • Color is indeed grey, charcoal-ish, they used some fancy word like "carbon rouge" or something to make it sound expensive. It's grey. Grey pants, jacket, and solid grey tie.
  • The pants were a huge issue. The first word that came to his mind to describe them was "hipster". Think super skinny "slim fit" design. Ridiculous.
  • Doubled breasted
  • No mention of certain shoe types.
  • The leather jacket is the best part. If we are stuck paying for the uniform he won't have one, he can easily see it running $300-$400. It's very nice.
  • Still using white shirts. No worry there.
  • Pilots had the best design. Some of the other groups were grey everything. Grey pants, jacket, shirt, tie, vest. Not a speck of color.
  • Mid-2016 will be when they come out for everyone.

UAL's look nice. Which they would've just copied them and been done with it.

I just hope jackets aren't required year-round. If they are, then there are some higher ups that don't realize that double breasted wool jackets do not mix well with crew bases in DFW, MIA and PHX in the summer time.

Also, please ditch the skinny, slim-fit pants. Those are 2 words that do not belong in my wardrobe.

After a year it will just droop, no more flying out, sorta like elephant ears. Try to hold the sitting down to a minimum while on duty. Management likes you to stand smartly in the concourse, answering all passenger questions.:D
