I am pretty senior reserve 777 FO MIA.

I fly GRU tonight. When I return on days on next week there are 4 trips open. I will fly again.

To recap, I did not fly Wed-FRI the June 4-6

I will have flown EVERY day on the rest of this month!

Your contractual days off are at home. He's talking about the requirement for having 24/7 or the new 30/168 break from all duty.

Having 30 hrs free from duty on a layover meets the legal requirement for 30/168. The same 30 hr break does not count as a 'day off' for your reserve days off.

Ok so if you get 11 days off on a reserve line, you will have 11 days off in base then correct? How many days on reserve is an average stretch? 5?

I was senior enough to get 4 breaks in days off for July.
Many of the reserve lines only have 3 groups of days off.

July off 2-5
off 11-12
off 19-21
off 26-28

Some reserve lines 777 FO MIA show on rese3rve last 6 days of June

and if you get one of several reserve lines for July you might be on the first 12 days of July.

That is 18 days in a row. That is not fixed. They are banking on you getting 30 hrs off in an outstation.

Last Summer I was on 22 days in a row June into July bid.

UNACCEPTABLE!!!

They will then use your moveables to fix a 30 in 168 problem.

SO you just lost a day off later in the month.

For me: UNACCEPTABLE

We don't do any of that stuff at airways. We can't do more than 6 days of reserve in a row.

This is true, but there is NO requirement in our contract to have at least one calendar day off IN BASE every seven days. That is just flat out wrong here at AA.

The line holders never see this issue crop up, but Reserve pilots have to deal with this nearly every month, at the beginning or end of the month. Consider my end-of-the-month this month combined with my beginning-of-the-month next month. I am on reserve the last five days of this month and the first six days of next month. Crew scheduling won't proactively give me a 30 hour break until it becomes obvious a day or so from my 7th day that I won't be assigned a trip with at least a 30 hour layover. So - only as a requirement of 117 - Crew Scheduling will give me a 30 hour break at home in that case. If, however, I were to fly a trip that had one of those lost weekend layovers in AUS or MCO, etc., then the requirement for 30 in 168 would be met, and scheduling would have no contractual requrement to give me any break in base during that eleven day stretch.

So, it would be quite possible for me to be available to them on Reserve for eleven straight days. I don't live in base, so it would be quite possible for me to say to my wife and dogs "see you guys in eleven to thirteen days (if I have to commute in and out the day before and after).

Nice.

Reserve here at AA can make one feel like an indentured servant at times.

I can't believe this exists at a major airline.

Looks like w/b intl has 3-4 blocks off. 4-6 days on, 2-6 days off.
Domestic n/b is mostly 4 day blocks off with some 3 day blocks of time off. Days on call is 4-6.

There's a handful of 777, and sometimes 767 intl, that has 2 blocks of 5-6 days off. Time on call is 7-10 days.

Days off are at home. 30/168 does not have to be in base.
