Premium Trips
It's no secret that summer is generally short staffed...this year probably more than most. Of course not all positions are the same but if you're an AB FO in PHL and you are picking up trips off the bid sheet at straight pay you're doing yourself a disservice. Some LAA pilots are (at least claim to be) holding out for premium only and I'm on board with it. Our contract has a lot of holes in it but this is one area we can collectively benefit ourselves and each other by sticking together.

That would be a good idea, but the way we offer premium is sad st best. Emails at 9pm for 6am departure? Emails saying they might be offering premium and then you call and they say no? Its damn near impossible to get unless you check Catcrew every 15 mins. And I live in base I can't imagine how much harder it would be as a commuter.

I understand completely about not living in base and getting the cbs messages after the fact. What you need to do is call futures on your days off and tell them that you want to be on the bid sheet for premium ONLY. Give them parameters that suit your needs. I need 8 or 12 hours notice. I won't fly redeyes...whatever. Remember you're not obligated for anything. I routinely turn down trips that won't work for me and take the ones that will.
I haven't picked up a trip at straight time in 4 months.
As far as DECS goes we don't have access to it yet so we're living in Catcrew which is even more archaic.

Don't worry about Sabre/Decs - there's apps for that. I rarely use Decs anymore but for a few commands not yet simplified in the apps. I was old school til I came to mainline but now Mobile CCI, Sabre/TASC and the APA mobile app all make it simple. Havent even tried Lite Sabre and it's supposedly a step or two up from all of those.
