I am a pilot too and know that non-reving or jumpseating doesn't always work out right.

Atlas Air will be making a company presentation starting at noon. They will be allotted 45 minutes to speak and answer any questions you have about the company. There will be two HR representatives that will make recommendations to the HR Manager (DB) on who would be a good interview candidate.

Remember that the attire for the job fair is business formal (suit and tie). The most important thing to have for the job fair is a great attitude. It makes all the difference with the recruiters. Do your homework on the company and come prepared.

As of today we only have 26 people who are interested in talking to Atlas. The lines should not be too long. You will have 5 hours to talk to the recruiters. If anybody has any questions please PM. Good luck.

Hotel Update

The Sheraton has extending the cutoff date for booking a hotel room under the group rate. It has been extended until August 31st. You can book a room directly through our website.

Any information on the competitive qualifications to get an interview?

Thanks in advance.

gvinflight 08-24-2012 09:13 AM

I also will be in attendance! I look forward to meeting the recruiters and fellow applicants!

This entire thread was instrumental in preparing me for my interview a year ago. As soon as I got back to my hotel room, I jotted down detailed notes so that it would be fresh. As a 'thank-you' to this thread and all who contributed, here's my offering to those with upcoming interviews.

Names and specific details were omitted to protect the guilty. Please excuse the incomplete sentences and overall bad grammar.

Mind you, this was a year ago, so it's anyone's guess as to how the upcoming interviews will be conducted.

Stayed at the Courtyard Marriott, as did most of interviewees. Shuttle drives through the departure level at MIA every 15 mins, so just wait for the big red Marriott van and flag it down. There is a Champion's sportsbar in the Courtyard and there were a lot of Atlas crew/trainees/applicants in and out of there. Happy hour is 4-7.

A van was scheduled to depart at 06:40 for the training center. You could take bags with you if needed or leave at hotel concierge. If you take to Atlas, they have a storage room you can leave them in and they are very cool about it.

Breakfast doesn't start until 6:30 and the van is at 6:40 so you don't have time to eat. Plan accordingly. There is a Starbucks next doors in the Marriott.

The training facility is just east of Land Mark Aviation (formerly Signature) on 36th Ave.

Introductions

Repeatedly reminded that there were no hidden cameras, no agenda, no trickery. If you are thirsty, grab a bottle of water. Shown where the coffee machine was. He Joked that he mentioned to one interview group that he likes chocolate chip cookies, so at lunch NO ONE touched them. We all laughed and he re-emphasized take or do what you needed as far as restrooms, food, or drink.

Video/Power Point Presentation about Atlas history/growth/success.

Started paperwork. Some paperwork required blue ink, so they suggested that you did everything in blue so you don't screw it up. They offered blue pens to those who had black, which was just about everybody.

First four were called back to start interviews, the rest of us started paperwork.

Girl came in to administer the essay. Given a note pad and 30 mins.

My first interview was the employment background.

Next, was the tech interview.

Lunch. Catered with finger sandwiches/wraps, sodas, cookies, salads. Very nice. During this time a recently retired line capt, now indoc instructor, came in and ate with us while answering questions.

HR interview.

After hr interview had some free time to finish up and double-check my paperwork and hang out until my turn for the tour. This was about 20-30 mins. A 16 year ANC capt that was on break from recurrent wandered in and chatted with us and answered questions.

Facility tour. One group timed it right and was able to get into the new -400 sim.

Overall, it was a great and non-threatening environment. They emphasized over and over that they wanted you to succeed and you were there because they wanted to hire you. It was just a final opportunity to make sure that you are a fit for Atlas and the Atlas lifestyle is a fit for you.

Stuff I'd recommend you bring:
Blue pen
All of your PRIA info (mainly 5 year employment with addresses and phone #'s)
A couple of copies of your completed application (was about to turn mine in when I noticed a smudge on one page. Good thing I had a backup)
Copy of the Pre-qual sheet you had filled out when you first applied (some applicants PAQ's got lost in the system, so they wanted them filled out again). Make sure you have your original docs, too.

Good luck!!

Funny! I flew a trip within the last six months that had the Ferrari, Sauber, and Scuderia Torro Rosso teams equipment and cars on board. On the same flight was a personal Lamborghini being delivered to its future owner.

The rubber dog $hit out of Hong Kong...I am not sure if I have carried it, but if I have, I probably would not tell you :)

For those going to Miami for the interview... The Days Inn, Comfort Inn, and Holiday Inn Express are available as well. You'll have to walk to the interview but they are all on 36th so that's not a problem. When I interviewed (2 1/2 years ago) I stayed at the Days Inn. It's not fancy but it is affordable. The walk to the crystal palace (that will make sense when you see the place) for the interview is only about 10 to 15 minutes. The Marriott Courtyard does have all the above mentioned accouterments but it is more expensive. Your choice. (The hotels on 36th are far closer to Bryson's Irish Pub.....reportedly the inspiration for George Lucas to write in the Tatooine bar scene in Star Wars 1).

rickfly 08-24-2012 05:42 PM

Isaac may have something to say about walking to the interview on the 28th. :)

I say - go with "Prestige Worldwide" (At least that is what I like to call the van service from the Marriott)

Great place to work, and only getting better I think.

If anyone would like to buy first round PM me and I will send you my schedule

As always my suggestion to everyone "DRINK HAVILY!!!!!"

FWIW, the Courtyard will give you Atlas's rate. I ended up using Marriott points instead, so I'm not sure how much you will save.

Thanks UP Pilot! Great info. Can you, or anyone else shed some light on the type of questions or example of questions they ask in the HR interview? Can't find much info about that portion of the interview. Thanks

Gsxrguy750 08-24-2012 07:49 PM

Interviews on aug 28th 29th. I think these are guys and gals that are left over from last year.

gvinflight 08-24-2012 07:58 PM

I see. Any word on the calls for the folks that submitted on or after the 13th?

See my previous post answering your question.

I had a chance to fly with Atlas as a pax going to base X the other day. Nice plane, service, and FAs. One working my section was pretty cute, too... Anyways, thanks for the lift guys.

gvinflight 08-25-2012 04:45 PM

Uh oh. That's not good. I hope we have it out again by the time we get there!

I just finished wading through the 4000+ posts (great info BTW...). Are Letters of Recommendation needed in the application process? I see where the PAQ and Resume is sent in but no mention of LORs. I'm Air Force who is about to retire soon so sorry if this is a rookie question.

Thx,

Razor

Not necessary..many folks have been hired without them. They do improve the odds, though. Understand... the process as now driven by HR is a mathematical exercise. A letter counts for X amount of points. Will it make the difference between being hired or not? Hard to say. It depends on what the score is for all the other things along the way.

Well, I am joining the Chicago train as well. I'll be getting in late on Friday night, but if anyone wants to grab a drink after the fair on Saturday, hit me up.

I wonder how much USAir is going to charge me to check my Individual Body Armor...

Just a few of the topics Ive heard are: NOTAMs, PRM, ADS. Enquiring minds want to know.

What in sam hill is PRM?....and ADS?

That being said, how do you get Letters of Rec into the system? Do you have to make it past the phone interview/Tech test first? Attach them with your resume?

744driver 08-26-2012 08:37 AM

Razor,

The LOR is a separate stream that the current Atlas pilot uses on our company web site, but the process now brings your PAQ (which has questions asking you if you have a sponsor) and the LOR together. This allows the HR folks to review your resume/PAQ and use the LOR to elevate your application closer to the top of the pile for possible next step.

An LOR can be sent in at any time by a friend and the system in place is sophisticated enough (!!) to still be able to bring (match) the two documents.

Good luck.

Instrument Landing System/Precision Runway Monitor (ILS/PRM) is an approach system that permits simultaneous ILS/PRM approaches to dual runways with centerlines separated by less than 4,300 feet but at least 3,400 feet for parallel approach courses, and at least 3,000 feet if one ILS if offset by 2.5 to 3.0 degrees.

Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) is FAA's satellite-based successor to radar. ADS-B makes use of GPS technology to determine and share precise aircraft location information, and streams additional flight information to the cockpits of properly equipped aircraft

Just to clarify, all three versions that the PAQ have gone through don't mention a sponsor specifically. It only mentions if the applicant knows anybody at Atlas and what they're job titles are.

No, that would be like trying to outrun a grizzly bear. You only need to do better than the other applicants. ;)

Unless you're a Delta crew landing on the parallel taxiway with all those pretty blue lights........

anyone ever get the info on how much weight is giving to showing up at the job fair? I'd like to go but will be on hot standby at home expecting a baby.

Job fairs are not part of the Atlas screening program...but some face time with HR folks could be a good thing.

I'm sure there's a reason they accept resumes as well as ask many questions similar to what's asked in the HR portion of the interview.

I'm not sure one would go so far as to say its NOT a part of the screening process.

Besides, WIA is a job fair of sorts, and more than one male has gotten a call from attending.

Otherwise DB, or any of the other nice HR folks wouldn't waste their time showing up. Not like they need to advertise.

The guy I know had completed phone interview/tech eval in December.
