Quiet, too quiet. I interviewed on the 28th and was fairly sure I screwed the HR interview. I keep looking for the FedEx truck or mailman, but nothing.
|
Can you elaborate and how you felt that you screwed up? It will help the rest of us learn... TJ
|
I just was not happy with some of my answers to the typical questions. "What is your definition of a bad pilot and give me an example of when you flew with one." I had been thinking of several examples before the interview and when asked I drew a complete blank and had to scramble to come up with one. Same with "Tell me something about yourself you need to work on".
I was called on July 19th for a July 28 interview. I then went out on a 4 day trip. Throw in some family business, and I didn't have time to do an interview prep class. Which I would have, but too late now. The rest of the interview felt pretty good so we'll see. Waiting like the rest. |
I'm still waiting too....no word yet.
|
WAOOOOOOOO I was told that if you did not receive the Bad letter by last Saturday, that most likely you got the job. It was true, I received the call this afternoon (8/17/2011) around 1630 by HR with the good news; Atlas Air hires me, for the B767-300ER. Class date September 19.
Thank you all, for your help and support, in this long but rewarding process. Best of luck and hope to see you all in class. Tomcat |
Congrats Tomcat, welcome to Atlas. I wonder if that is the first 767 class?

Congratulations, VF32, and welcome to Atlas...
Actually, there will have been 3 classes (all Captains) by the time you get to Miami. July, August, and one that starts on September 6th. |

Shorter legs, I guess, but will these legs stay closer to "home" or will they be used for smaller loads that still need to be sked randomly round the world? |
New to forum! Thanks for all the insight covered on ALL 206 pages.. I have interview on Sept 14th. I guess I should brush up on the "so tell me about yourself?"...gotta love that one;)
|
C17trap I tried to email you, however received an undeliverable message. Please confirm your email. Thanks!

First year pay scale is the same as the B747...$75 per hour for a 50 hour guaranty. Starting the second year, it is about 14% less than the B747.
However, in this job market, if offered a class date, and assuming you really want to be here...are you going to turn it down because of that? Probably not, right? |

The other thing to consider is that our new CBA might have more specific pay rates. However, implementation of the new CBA is in the arbitrator's hands...when he renders a decision on the remaining items, it can be signed and put into effect.
Good luck. 744driver |
I'd take the 767 in a heartbeat but would really prefer the 747 because I live in base. Almost certain the 767 WONT go to HSV.... But, just getting on with Atlas in any capacity would be awesome. Interview on the 15th, and really hitting the books!!!
Does anybody know what percentage they hire from the interviews? I know fedex was near 20% for a while there... |

Still need that secret decoder ring and I have never even seen one. :) |
The basing issue has been touched on before but is still a big question mark for me because the idea of having a say in where you live is completely new to me. Bear in mind that I went straight from home to the military, meaning I've never had the option to choose where to live.
With the pre-amble out of the way, can a current employee give some advice based on the following scenarios? I realize there are some big IFs in there, but in the interest of narrowing the discussion I have to make some assumptions. #1 - I get hired, based in JFK, choose to live close to LIT. I always request to stay out 17 days in a row. How does my work period start if my first leg is from JFK to somewhere? What about WRI? What about FRA? How does my work period end if the last mission terminates in JFK? In FRA? Will I ever be required to spend reserve time in JFK? If so, how do I get there and do I pay for my own lodging? What happens if a mission during my 17-day window passes through LIT or JFK? #2 - hired, HSV-based, choose to live within driving distance of HSV. How do all the above questions change (substituting HSV for LIT and JFK)? I realize this might be outside the scope of the hiring discussion, and I'll be happy to move the question to another forum if it's more appropriate there. Thanks again for the continued great info on Atlas--I can't wait to get myself qualified to apply! |

Hey guys, This thread has been dead on so far. It has been a tremendous help to get me to the interview. Is anyone else going to the interview on the 23rd?

The questions don't change no matter where you live. Thanks again for clearing things up for me. I go back and forth during these posts about whether to move near my base or move near a gateway city of my choice if I make it in. For the time being I'm back to the gateway city opinion. |
Grill Is DEAD!!!!! (thread creep)
Ok guys and gals I have been on here for 2 weeks wondering if the grill was still in place at the hotel in MIA, well it was until last night. Someone left the damn thing on HIGH all night (forgot to turn it off) and melted all the knobs and ruined a burner or two. I think a moment of silence is in order............................................. ............................
Now on to the most important thing. The front desk said it was a fellow atlas pilot, if that is the truth, then lets own up, and I will chip in and buy another if not we need to set the record straight with the hotel. So if you are at the long stay hotel in MIA and used the grill Friday night please PM so we can fix this. They are talking about not getting another one and that would just SUCK!!!!! cheers, cargo |

What happened was when a group used it a couple of nights ago, they had moved it. When it was moved, some of the pipes that were connected to the burners became disconnected causing the flame to engulf the entire underneath. Not something we noticed until the thing got so hot underneath and in front, that the knobs melted. Immediately, we went inside and told maintenance. They shut the gas off and put a sign on it(after it cooled of course) saying "out of order". It was 4 of us from the newest 400 class at Atlas, but it was completely not something we did out of negligence and we definately didn't leave it on all night. On behalf of my other Atlas buds who were out there, I apologize that the grill died while we were using it, but it was not something we really had any control over. We were just as bummed as you. |

Oh well thanx for fessing up!! No prob if need be I will pick one up and donate to the group. cheers, cargo |
Not sure if this was covered in the 208 pages, I searched for a while and used the search function without success. Do you have to have an internal letter of recommendation to get an interview/hired at Atlas? Thanks.
