When I first floated the idea of buying an ANR headset to my wife I mentioned the price, and admitted that it was a pretty big dent in the budget. She looked at me with that "you are a stupid dog" look, and asked me if I had priced hearing aids lately.

One absolutely needs a good headset in this job for all kinds of reasons.

Sound well worth it than. Was praying I wouldn't have to buy another headset again. Looks like I've got something for the XMAS list at least.

The sad thing is that most of our senior guys who need it the most, sit there with one ear cup of their $1000 Bose off their ear doing them no good at all.

You absolutely need to wear hearing protection on the 74. I wear ear plugs and use a Telex 850. Once you damage your hearing, you NEVER get it back!

Mach 1 light speed molded ear pieces for the last ten years. Prior to that was Bose 1, 1+,2's and 10's all great to keep you hearing.

The other side of the coin is the passive aggressive FO who refuses to use the intercom, so the only way to hear them is to keep one ear cup off.

I think that it is past time to label this the safety and health issue that it is. Locking interphone switches on the entire fleet, not just the -8. And everyone uses them.

So how about the 767? Loud or quiet?

Custom Molded Earpieces from AverySound.com

They are thorough and provide great customer service.

As for what is better between active and passive noise attenuation, I have tried both. Custom molded earbuds are every bit as effective against noise as electronic headsets. It boils down to personal preference of having something in you ears or over them.

What headset are these custom earpieces used with? I assume it's just the piece and needs to be used with something like the Clarity. I like the idea of an in ear headset but I get sick of wearing plugs in the ear canal all the time.

We are talking about Clarity Aloft, but it looks like this company can make custom molded tips for any in ear headset.
