So many airlines in the USA have started hiring again (Legacy/LCC and Regional). When will the Atlas exodus start? Cause we know most people hired during CoVID only came here cause it was the only option.

I remember just before CoVID when the Atlas hiring thread was filled with comments about how bad Atlas was and stay away.

Its all a flow, come and go.
Nothing said here or elsewhere will ever change that. It’s inherent to the industry.
People come and go regardless of how good or bad the market is. Some come because they want to be here and some because they need to be here.
Atlas will never have a shortage of pilots more severe then what the market dictates it to be.
Thinking that can be affected by ‘negative’ advertising towards interested pilots is……wrong.

In not going back to the regionals. I’m looking to try something different and Atlas 767 sounds like the right pace for me. I’ll put my name in the hat.

I never said that negative posts on here would effect hiring, just that most people seemed to view atlas as a last resort. As such, when another opportunity arise they would be gone in a flash.

99% of posts on here have been positive since CoVID and I was just wondering when the negativity will return.

When you say the market dictates Atlas pilot shortage/oversupply, do you mean when in a boom they are desperately short? And vice versa? Well most well run well remunirated airlines have a good supply of applications in good and bad times.

You can’t compare the top 5 (3 Majors and Fedex/UPS)with the rest of the airline industry.
Harvard and MIT will never have a shortage of applications either.
So in a normal world everything is cyclical.
Business good, demand is up.
Business bad, demand is down.
The freight market follows a cyclical curve which is offset from the rest of the market as in certain world or economic events may affect it differently. The worldwide airline industry tanked after 9-11 except….freight.
2008-2009 world economic crunch may have affected Atlas more then 9-11 did.
2020 or any other global health crisis will benefit the freight markets.
So….when life is good (2016-2019) the pilot shortage that Atlas encountered wasn’t any more or less then other airlines faced.
Top 5 excluded obviously.
There was a consolidated effort in trying to starve Atlas of pilots by only highlighting the negatives. This was done both in public as well as in the cockpit. This tactic has miserably failed and will backfire as a consequence.

Flying long haul freight takes a different person then flying domestic.
If you prefer to fly to the same limited number of destinations so you can memorize frequencies and procedures and avoid the unexpected then that’s perfectly fine.
Different strokes kinda thing.
If you’re now forced (furloughed) to fly long haul freight you’ll have two choices.
Adapt or be miserable.
Your misery is not the employers fault though, your job doesn’t match your preferences.
So yes you’ll probably bail at the first opportunity to go back to what you’re comfortable with.
Others may discover it’s a good fit.
Others will continue to chase money and their only interest is a better paying job regardless of what the work entails.

"When will the Atlas exodus start? "

This is cute. People do strange things man. I know a guy that left atlas for a crappy 135 operator flying lears. I know another guy that left the lear operator to fly piston twins in middle of nowhere oklahoma because wifey poo doesnt want ot move. why does the hot girl want to sleep with me but the 300 pound whale rejects me it makes no sense. and dont try to make sense of it either. the pilots that say they dont want to go to american airlines i immediately think to myself what skeletons do you have. not wanting to go to american is like saying i choose to have cancer at least in my mind. or the 50 year old that chooses to be a career cfi when the cfi is designed for one thing get you from 300 hours to 1500 hours and move onto a regional thats mostly what its for. again. people are weird especially when it comes to family love and money.

You sound like a really annoying know-it-all. I bet you love to give your opinions on everything and life advice that no one asked for.

I don’t want to go to American, Delta or United.... Selected all three to see what other reasoning/logic you might conjure up besides the myopic skeleton comment/cancer analogy. This gig happens to work for myself like so many here. As for myself: Not getting rich anytime soon very true but we do very well, long haul international travel (family in Europe/Far East) , but no jump seat pressure, no crash pads, no pax related headaches 95% of flights; therefore, truly living where I desire. I also lived overseas and enjoy the worldwide travel which is specifically geared to me. Big 3 could never meet or match what works for me and international flying would be late in the game and wash rinse repeat at best - good $ to travel on my own time I guess. Big 3 are perfect for the majority is my guess and that is great, TiredSoul has it correct. Different strokes for different folks, some people can be up-beat, positive, happy, etc. and there are those will who never ever be any of the aforementioned traits and it is what it is and that’s OK. Plenty of my friends have moved on and some are happy and more than I thought are not as the side was greener but not utopia as many have declared on APC. 2020 Pandemonium - Most of my military buds were more than happy to go screaming back to their units to secure employment for 3-5 years (future impact was unknown then), gain retirement points and collect half of their airline pay. Great move on their part and most of them don’t miss the ground hog day lifestyle of flying domestic commercial AND keeping up with flying mil aircraft and their other mil duties... Now they just have the one lane and get paid for nothing by the other. Good for them and that’s their happy place for now, more power to them.

Agree with your “people are weird especially when it comes to family love and money.” Not all are weird, you must seek to understand and then to be understood. But your right: Even weird is sometimes an understatement.
