Atlas Air Hiring
#2431
OK - I didn't think they were interchanging them, but wanted to be sure. I have virtually zero experience filling out applications and didn't understand the nuances of simulator stuff and other things 'foreign' to me.
Thanks for all the great explanations!!

I believe the first question is looking for turbine (t-prop + t-jet) command time for captain experience, for the company's interest.
The other question referencing turbojet-greater-than-12500 lbs speaks to the requirements for getting a initial turbojet type rating in a level "C" simulator. Atlas has hired t-prop-only pilots, but got them SIC-only B744 types, and then had to deal with pairing requirements, as they could only occupy the right seat. When they acquire "X" hours in type on the line, that allowed them to then go in for the full type rating and release to normal scheduling. (a practice from tough-to-find-qualified-pilots periods e.g. "when everybody's hiring").
I believe with a level "D" simulator all of this is unnecessary.
I may be wrong.

I just found out from a 767 guy working on the program ramp-up / ETOPS certification that the feds are requiring the First Officers hired into the 767 to have previous 767 experience since it is a brand new program for Atlas with many Captains that have not flown that airplane before.
This is good news for 767 guys looking for a job. All other will be hired into the 747.

Does anyone know or have an educated guess on how which airframe guys in the pool are called for classes works? Is this decision made during interviewER deliberations? For example, "we like this guy but think he'd be a better fit for the 74 or 76"...(appropriate annotation made next to his/her name as hiring paperwork is pushed forward through the process)?
I guess my question is - Is there theoretically 1 pool (one pool based purely on the needs of the company at that time) or 2 (a 76 candidate pool and a 74 candidate pool)? Basically, is where you are going kind of already predetermined once in the pool (or your respective pool if there are 2) or is it totally a crapshoot?

CAPTAINV it's about time you join us. Only one more person left in the pool from our interview day. I'll see you in Miami next month, I got my PT on the 14th. Cargowannabe, have the grill ready, lets not forget the adult beverages either.
