Also what's the gain/carrot for which the union is wanting to hand out that one?

Remember the flip side of 20 off is 40 on.
If you are forced into a back to back, there is a pay override of 1.5 hours per day for all days out over 24. If you bid that way on purpose, then there is no override.

So it would be 40 nights in CVG? I assume there are no layovers at other locations.
How stable is the DHL flying at the end of the day? And until what year is the lift signed for?
As for Jumpseats, what does SAI have?
Any talk of interviews in July?

If not, you might be not-so-pleasantly surprised to find that after 6 weeks on the road, "home time" no longer matters, as you have no "home," just a place you drop in on every so often and impose yourself on the people living therein. In time, you may find that you've become largely irrelevant to your former family...somebody else has taught your son to hit a baseball...somebody else has presented your daughter flowers at her first dance recital. If your wife has had a hard day at work and needs to talk to somebody, don't worry...somebody will be there to listen. It just won't be you. Don't be surprised if that person becomes your wife's new "friend...but just a friend" or if she somehow knows more about the status of her new "friend's" failing marriage than you do your own.
Lastly, get to know your kids teachers and coaches well...they'll be a lot more important to your kids intellectual and emotional development than you are.
The point is, "Time is all you have in this life" Don't undervalue it! Know what you're getting into before you make a commitment to something as tenuous as a job with an ACMI carrier.

I'm one of those guys with no family or wife (and absolutely no intention of having either) who loves being on the road all the time and popping in to places for 2-3 weeks at a time. The idea of a normal life is not appealing to me in the least. But I do think your post was valuable as it does lay out some realistic things to consider for those who think they want it without knowing what it is. I'm quite comfortable in this life though as I've been at it (well a variation of it) for 6 years, been more like 2-3 months on 3-4 weeks off for me and trying to get more of a steady rhythm to it.

Have you ever worked a job that had you on the road and away from family 2/3rd's of your life? If so and it worked for you, good luck to you, I hope you get the job.

My very reason i decided to resign from class and return home to my old job. It isn't a 777 but, it is a job and a job is just a job. Since I returned home i have been able to fix up my home which was in a poor state from me being away, I have been to my daughters sporting events, pick them up from school and become a husband again. Life is short and i feel that family comes first and in my case i needed to be where I am happiest, at home. Maybe this job could work for others but for me, I'm at peace. All the luck, Godspeed!

That would be on purpose, all the time, as 40/20 is my ideal schedule.
So it would be 40 nights in CVG? I assume there are no layovers at other locations.
