So it sounds like the airlines would have to phase out the older planes, rather than going all single pilot (797 or something similar) or converting them to single pilot/monitor on the ground. Kind of like how the FE was replaced over time. I have over 40 years left. Maybe I should look into a drone license or pick up another skill set. Any ideas out there?

I think you'll be fine man, some pilots hate one of the coolest jobs so much so that they just dream this crap up and wish it would replace their jobs. 5 years/10 years? Give me a break, we still fly 1940s technology in the military and 70s technology in the majors. We still fly the 737.

Seriously?
You should read Terminal Man (1972). Scientists were predicting the 'singularity' was imminent back then.
Futurists are worse than politicians. At least politicians get into that line of work because they realize they are wholly unqualified for anything else. Futurists never figure that out.
"Singularity" is a joke amongst anyone who understands technology.

And yes. People like Ray Kurzweil, Elon Musk, etc don't understand technology lol.

Good intellectual comeback. Maybe Bill Gates can clear this up for you.

In a simple traffic management scenario you can write a differential equation to handle the flow and change in flow. It would be fairly complex, but solvable. Now take this mangement scenario and add many city blocks in north and west directions. That equation would quickly become "unsolvable", even with numerical approaches.
Now consider what we want AI to do? Is it any suprise that our daily actions and decisions can be brought into the world of diff eq? So what? Can a computer solve an unsolvable equation? No. It would need the programming in advance. Just like my scenario earlier, some equations cannot be solved. Either the math hasnt been fully understood or the problem really has become unsolvable... ever.
My pount is this: computers may reach the point of doing marvelous things, but you will need engineers to design and prgram them. They run on "math". So what can we honestly expect from a machine that cannot have a full requirement of programming, to drive our cars and fly our airplanes, and manage the traffic flow of either?
Answer: nothing good.
Just a thought of course, but then its been a few years sense ive looked at this stuff

No.
They really don't. (AI is a very specific type of technology-and is purely theoretical at this point-or any point in the reasonably near future.)
We may have something to worry about in several hundred years, but not anytime soon.
Here is a much better authority on the subject than anyone you mention:

Seriously.
Do some (non sci-fi) reading on the subject. We are dealing now with very rudimentary machine learning. That is not true AI. True AI is far, far in the future-and will require a revolution in the way any AI is currently conceived.
