I have trouble taking the climate crap seriously if they're not building nuke plants wholesale. Getting the world to cut consumption and alter lifestyles is a total non-starter, so you have to provide carbon-free power large-scale and nuclear is it. You can throw in some solar and wind on the fringes if that makes you feel better.

One mistake people are making is underestimating Russia. It is an extremely wealthy state, with huge gold and currency reserves and with a surplus budget.
They need to be removed from SWIFT. That will decimate their financial system. China and DPRK can't sustain them for long, especially when a large portion of Chinese money is in USD.

There is a ton of greenwashing BS floating around. But I will not accept that we can't break free of fossil fuels. We may not be able to get rid of them of all of them but we could become a vast oil exporter like Saudi Arabia or Russia to those suckers that still use it. If we continue to transition our cars, trucks and most Semis to EVs we can slowly bring the reliance of this country on oil and the costs that come with it to an end. That means we don't have to care what OPEC says, we don't have care about Venezuela, we don't need carriers in the Arabian Sea and we can stop sending money to countries that hate us and wish to do us harm. All of the electricity created to run EVs are done right in America by Americans. The transmision lines, power generation and everything associated with it are all kept inside America. That means the jobs are not in some far away oilfields scattered around the world or oceans they are all here. That means all the investments, all the jobs and all the money stays in the country and is circulated from Americans to Americans and not Saudis, Mexicans, Canadians, Iranians, Venezuelans, Russians, etc.

Build the Nuclear, build the solar, build the wind, drill for more oil in America, open the pipelines all of which will get us independent of needing any other nation for energy while keeping our own money from flowing out of the Country.

I have 2 EVs with solar on my roof. When people talk about high gas prices I don't have to worry how much it will cost to fill up. I do worry about the instability it will bring and the higher prices I will have to pay for everything shipped. Most of which could be mitigated by transitioning to EVs. I understand that ships would still run on bunker oil or other forms of fossil fuel but most of the supply chain costs associated with transportation would not be at the whims of speculators, OPEC and other other oil producing nations. This not only would keep the money here in America but selling the oil to others that have not made the transition away from oil would make the U.S. Hundreds of Billions a year in revenue.

looked it up and guess I was wrong. I was under the impression we had something that was capable of shooting down ICBMs, but I was mistaken. While I think Rick’s deterrent point is valid, I’ll admit that’s not what I was thinking.

Still think this is a bigger threat to Western Europe than us, which was the point of my original post.

Exactly. He will take the entire country and there is nothing the US or NATO will or can do militarily.

The questions now are:

1) Will economic isolation have any effect?
2) Will the rest of the world join in?

Unfortunately I see a situation where this will slowly be forgotten, the Europeans will want their cheap gas from the world's "Old Gas Station," and Ukraine will be forgotten.

And on the next former Soviet satellite.

Except Ukraine is not part of NATO.

If Putin just wanted UK, he got it, but this will really wake up Western Europe. They're not going to wait until the red army rolls into Paris. Lesson learned in '39.
The Red Army no more has the wherewithal to roll into Paris than the German’s do to move their border 10 kilometers to the East. The manpower, equipment, money and will simply doesn’t exist at the moment or any time soon. China can’t even begin to contemplate a real amphibious assault on Taiwan, and they have a 10M man military.

People defending against old wars will get us into the next one. Russia will expend it’s military strength in Ukraine, but they might cyber the West to death if that is what they want to do. It won’t be with bullets.
