That’s how it used to be. Now the guys I’ve been helping get in the door are taking anywhere from 3-6 months (most at the 6 month mark) to start depending on their experience. They are heavy on FOs; however if your DEC they’d probably get you in right away.

Yeah sounds like they are filling classes starting in the 3rd quarter as of now. DEC’s could probably sneak in asap I assume.

How many people on average are in new classes? Are they shrinking the class sizes now?

My class was 12 in January, the class before was about the same. The training department is going through a lot of FAA approvals right now and everyone is backed up - Sim's, check-rides, orals, etc.. Word is, all of that will be different by 4/1 which is the target date of having most FAA signoffs complete.

The target is to run two classes of at least 10-12 per month. A problem we have is that the company should have dramatically raised pay last fall, to attract people to the pool to be ready to train this spring. Instead, they waited, and the pool they had has been drying up. If you’re waiting on a class date from Breeze, and get a CJO from United, you’re gone. Hopefully they do the right thing at the end of the month and actually give a huge pay raise

Not only this but the company has chosen the route of staffing the airline by hiring CFIs so that at least they’ll show up. That’s great and all but the problem is they’re coming in with zero experience to be flying E190s, A220s and doing charters. It means the Captains are about to be left with not only dealing with operational complicities but will also have to babysit their fellow pilot next to them indefinitely. It better be a huge pay raise or I can see big instability in the Captain ranks.

The financials simply will not support huge raises. Breeze is burning cash. Avelo on the other hand has a very modest cash burn and should be profitable by summer. They would have already turned a profit had jet fuel not increased substantially. It appears their pilot strategy at Breeze is low pay and hire pilots with absolute minimum qualifications.

Ballpark. 3Q '22 total expenses $72M. 300 pilots, CA pay $200/hr, FO pay $100/hr. Total direct hourly pilot pay @ 75hr/mth: $10M. Cost of 35% pay raise: 5%. And that would give them close to DAL post TA rates. Drop, meet ocean.
