Zero recommends & no degree?

I'm not saying it doesn't happen but it's a gamble. Especially if its going to take him several years to finish it. Might be better off just getting on at a ULCC or a regional with a flow. If you have a semester left then by all means go for it.

The people in charge of hiring at US majors have a culture and demographic that they want to protect. A degree and an ATP by 23 says that you came from the right neighborhood. They do not want the lower classes working their way up into jobs reserved for upper middle class frat boys. Different life experience and political views could possible rock the boat and no one wants that.

Oh stop. Don't be a baby. No one ever said going to college teaches you how to fly a jet, if you think that's the reason to get a college degree you're an ignoramus. With few exceptions, going to college doesn't expressly teach you how to do any job. It's about growing up and doing what's expected of you.
I truly don't get how you can call yourself a professional, maintain that you deserve more money, and at the same time claim that you don't need a college education. Unless of course you don't have one and need to rationalize your decision.
It's 2017, not 1967. College is expected of everyone, get over it.

Understand 50SeatsofGrey, University did'nt prepare me to be a, PIC, TRI/TRE, nor other areas in airline management... Operations, Head of Training, Dir. of Flt. Stds., and the list goes on.
To the masses who desire to fly with the airlines.... Get a college degree. Get a degree in a field other than aviation. Earn a post graduate degree in Law, Medicine, Accounting. Start a business. Never be in a position to be reliant on an employer. Keep in the back your mind that a furlough without a game plan is perilous and can be catastrophic.
Again, a four year degree, an airline pilot does not make.

Trump needs to build a wall for the north border too. These canucks slide on down the icy hiway to the warmth of the United States of America and take our jeeeerbs. It's unfair that this hockey playing hosier can come fly for one of Americaland's legacy airlines, but if I were to ever lose my mind and want to go freeze my weenis off in the frozen waste land that is Canada Eh, I cannot go up there and fly for Air Canada Eh. It's bull poop.

By the way judging by the way you write, University didn't do much of anything for you.

Honestly, the education system in this country is braindead and a complete scam. Colleges are in the business of making money, not educating people to get good careers. That's why there is over a trillion dollars in student loan debt right now and most people are defaulting on that debt. Most college students don't even understand the basics of how our government works or even who their elected officials are. They are taught to regurgitate useless information and never to question anything outside of the mainstream. I learned more from traveling the world in my 20's than anything I could have gotten from sitting in a classroom. THAT was money well spent, not paying student loans to some bank.

What a rediculous thread... people with degrees championing the merits their accomplishments and those without degrees complaining that it just isn't fair. Well, the reality is that if you want the best jobs in this industry you need a degree. That was the reality when you all made the decision to continue you education or not. Can we stop beating the dead horse now?
To the OP, I'd shoot for a ULCC. Great pay and benefits, and it will enhance your resume much more effectively than going to a regional to get beat on day in and day out. If you do decide to go for more school it will be easier to manage with a better income and quality of life. In any case, good luck!

So if a school doesn't specifically train you to become a pilot, there's no virtue in attending? What an idiotic way of thinking. Why draw the line at college then? Why not hire people with 8th grade educations who have a GED? Why even require a GED? It doesn't test any aviation subjects.
