Career advise for a 50 yr old pilot
Quick question...
I am 50 yrs old and a high time (10,500hrs or so) Transport Category Helicopter guy with about 4000hrs Fixed Wing total time and about 1900 hrs of so of Multi Engine Fixed Wing time with an ATP. Recently completed a job flying a Type Rated DHC-6-300 (14K Gross Weight) where I got about 850hrs or so PIC TurboProp time. Passenger service with Heavy IFR time. Should I take a shot at the 121 world, knowing I can only really get 15 yrs in before Mandatory Retirement? If so, will I just get passed over for the transition to a Major due to my age??
Thanks!

Your age doesn't have anything to do w it per se. you don't get what you don't try for.

This is a classic Risk VS Reward question. What you really should focus on is your “numbers” (financial goals) to meet by the time you reach your target retirement age. How much more $$ do you need to save in retirement and what is the best way for you to meet that goal without undue risk?

You easily can get on with a Regional or a Fractional (if you want to go that route). Your PIC turbine may be a little light for a Major. However even if you only get 10 years with a Major you will still get retirement benefits.
