Default Ramp Agent?

Would being a ramp agent for any airline be a good thing to have on a resume for regional FO?

My situation is; I am a part time flight instructor with 800 total, 220 ME time, looking to get on with a regional. I'm not in a great hurry and a little picky (mostly I don't want to commute). Trying to do anything I can to build up my resume until hiring picks up again.

Part-time ramp positions frequently are available in my area. Would that be a plus for a pilot resume? Also am thinking about doing online aviation degree at MSU, no degree at this time.

Any thoughts?

Sure, why would it not be? I have flight attendant on my resume.

I think previous airline experience, ANY airline experience, is great and certainly better than none. If anything it will make you a better pilot because you'll have a clue of how other people's jobs work. Most pilots haven't got a darn clue what happens in the back of the cabin. I do.

I know lots of people who were flight attendants and rampers. It's a positive thing. Do it if you can.

It would certainly help if you ramp for the regional you want to fly for.

I know many people who were hired with much less experience because they previously threw bags for that airline.

What about generally being in the aviation business?

It worked for me and I am at a legacy. I know several who did and it paid off after college. Companies are smaller than you may realize.

But make sure you don't do anything stupid to get fired while working the ramp.

I work the ramp and I think it's going to be a plus on my resume. Providing Delta doesnt screw over all the NW workers, I plan on staying on the ramp until im done with college and all my ratings. I'm sure "Delta" (comair, asa, etc..) would like to see an applicant who's worked for "Delta" a number of years while getting his ratings. That way, that applicant knows the airline, knows the system, and understands the industry.

Does anyone know ANY ramp workers at KBOI? I'm working towards applying with a regional (if they begin hiring again), and am trying to meet anyone in Boise that may know something about a ramp position. Thank you!

While I was instructing out of S67, I used to have some students that worked the ramp for QX in BOI, but not sure if they are still there. I also used to know the station manager for Southwest in BOI, but I believe he moved down to PHX. I still have the contact info for the station manager for SkyWest in BOI. Most airlines will advertise for rampers on their company web site.

I'm back living in BOI for the time being. Let me know if I can be of any assistance, I have a few cntacts around this area.
