The job is a lot of fun and you will get almost ANY question answered about ANYTHING the industry has to offer.
A blessing in disguise for me, I have learned so much about working abroad and the alternatives to that shiny airline job in general, I could not be happier with my future plans. Like I said, I have worked for what is on paper the best, and I worked for a company in Ch.11. To each his own you learn from everything- good luck!

I'm a contract pilot trying to get a ramp job as a "side job." RmTrice - do you work in a Hub or an outstation? I noticed Pinnacle starts off at $7/hr on the ramp, and Southwest starts at around $10.25. How long does it take to get a pay increase? Could anyone recommend a recruiter with their respective airlines for a ramp position?

Thanks all, I have now been working ramp for Comair at CAK for a month (part time). we do ASA's ground ops, also United Express, (mostly Skywest and Mesa). It's not bad; am hoping to get my hours down to about 20 per week so I have more time to instruct.

Just a word of advice. While doing that get as much experience in other areas suchas ops, dispatch, CSA and things like that. I went from bag runner to ramp to CSA to ops and even had a little dispatch and safety training with our safety team. From there I did flight attendant and thats where I got most of my time off to build my hours and fly more.

Dont count out corporate line service jobs... I used to work line service for a well known FBO and being there helped me gain alot of connections which actually led to my first job. I had under 500hrs at the time and was contracted as an SIC in a PC12 and King Air C90.
It was a blast.... We overnighted in some really cool places and stayed in some nice hotels. Much better than flying SMF-BUR.

Well I do ops for Delta, NWA, Pinnacle, Compass, Skywest, ASA and Comair in SAT right now part time.. I've done this job off and on pretty much since 2000... and now that I'm a pilot with a little time under my belt, I'm hoping it'll help me out in the regionals once they start hiring again... I've seen the good and bad with airlines (but haven't seen everything) and I'm still here working with them, so we'll see how it goes.

I just started ramping / gate agent for Allegiant Airlines out of BLI.
I have one year of UND from the satellite school in Spokane, and am planning on going back to Grand Forks for the rest this fall...with hopes of transferring with Allegiant and working for them as I continue my education there.
I'm hoping that at the least, time working for an airline will be helpful on my resume. From what I've been reading, it seems that just might be the case.
