Default background checks and failed airlines

I have the misfortune of having two failed airlines on my resume. One failed while I was working for them, so I was able to prep and get letters and records verifying my employment, but the other failed after I had already left and I have essentially nothing from them. There is now no trace of them left from what I can tell. How would a prospective employer handle this? More over, how do the 10 year background checks work with such a situation?

thanks

Ask around among other former employees ...there is supposed to be a court-directed records custodian for those situations.

I doubt they will expend much effort, but they may already know if they have dealt with previous applicants from that airline.

Which airline was it? Somebody here might know...

Gemini Air Cargo, I'd be interested in knowing if anyone know how I can find the custodian for the airline so as to get all copies of my records for my own.

You might have some luck, depending on the legal status of the airline.

I did some consulting work for a group of former Pace Airlines employees and know that since they are in bankruptcy proceedings, it's next to impossible to get any "official" records. I have been told that the administrative staff worked overtime copying training and pilot records of instructors and line pilots and distributing them before Pace officially closed the door. The company did not send out W-2 forms to employees and the trustee said he doubted if "anything could be obtained".

Just my two cents

Yeah, thanks for that info.. my last airline failed while I was there and that's exactly what they did... letters, printouts, copies, etc.. The problem with this one is that it went under over a year after I left the property... and as of today, I am in touch with a couple of line pilots only...

In a nutshell... my question is this.. What do PRIA or other HR 10 year background checkers do if they CANNOT reach an employer due to non-existence? Just take your word for it?

Doesn't the PRIA state you have to make a best effort? Sounds like you have. I had to speak to one on the researchers ( I live in Canada and worked in a weird industry prior to flying), but they are real people and know the world as it is.

In my view, you should list the employer and state that they ceased operations on such and such date. It's not incumbent on you to provide the records IF the company ceased operations, declared bankruptcy, etc. I think a good faith effort to provide requested documents on your part is all that's required. Besides, prospective employers will have figured it out.

BTW, love the MD logo. I had a sordid affair with the Diesel-10 for years. What a gal !
