Turbine pic is a box to check to get your resume on the short stack. Same thing with 4 year degree. Right or wrong it can make a difference and does in many companies when they have to sort out the pile of resume's that come in.

What does the PIC-type rating for FO do for the TPIC? I have heard they will be able to log the time as PIC when it is there leg to control the aircraft. According to the regs, they are rated as PIC of the aircraft and the one in control of it. Is this null due to the "has the final decision in flight" part?

If that doesn't make sense, I am refering to the fact that all FO in the regionals will now be PIC typed in august, as before they could have 3000hrs and no ATP/PIC-TYPE.

I actually found some good info/opinions on this. Mostly that you can log it as PIC but the captains decision making skills are what the Legacy carriers want out of TPIC. Post any response along with this if you like.

Well if one has ZERO turbine PIC, then they can't even apply at FedEx/SWA/a few random other places. They wouldn't even get the chance to be looked at...so yes, that is what we are saying.

As far as I am concerned, all it does for me is remove SIC from my ATP. You can log whatever you want. But airlines want PIC time when you sign for, or are in command/the final decision maker of the aircraft. If you logged PIC while in the right seat, you will most likely be booted from the interview. I wouldn't log PIC until I have gone through a formal upgrade and been designated a Captain at my airline.

Could someone shed some light on this scenario?
Swould it be better to stay as a SE turbine Capt doing 135 or jump to On demand cargo flying sic in a lear/falcon?

If you can get to 1000 TPIC quickly, might as well punch the ticket. That will not get you a major airkline job, but I think you could then seek out whatever glass/jet/ME SIC you can find and hopefully the combination of experience will do the trick.

But if it's going to take you years to get 1000 TPIC, then just go for the jet and work on upgrading in that.

Yes it is legal to log it as PIC. But it is NOT what major airlines are looking for, and will not help you AT ALL. They know exactly what it is, and it's no different than SIC as an FO.

It could even hurt you...if you apply to a major and list 1000 TPIC and then show up with sole manipulator time as an FO, you will get shown the door and never invited back. They know exactly what they are looking for and it's captain time, ie the guy in charge.

If you want to log it for possible use outside 121, keep a separate column. But don't allow any confusion when applying for major airline jobs. I would not even list this time on your resume unless you know that the employer in question will value it.

Absolutely better. Not even close.

If you want to make this conversation interesting, ask about A320 FO time compared to Cessna 310 PIC time or Caravan time...but Large turbine PIC to FO time...I can't believe this thread is 4 pages long.

As far as keeping your logbook...do not misrepresent your "safety pilot" or "sole manipulator" time on an airline application...you will not be the first...you will not be the last, but it will make an already stressful situation even more stressful. It's really not worth it.

What I did that seemed to have worked, is I created a column in my logbook called 121 turbine PIC. I then ONLY logged the most pure T-PIC time. It didn't even make 100 hours difference in the whole scheme of things and I was glad to be able to point to that entry in my logbook and say that all that time was as the Captain...not IOE...no simulators...not Part 91 ferries...not as an FO while manipulating the controls...no safety pilot stuff.

I interviewed at Delta, SWA, and Alaska and any questions about my logbook simply stopped after I made that statement.

Not saying I wouldn't have gotten a job without doing it, but it at the very least allowed for one less thing to be stressed about in the interview.

In this particular case, I'd take the upgrade on the Saab instead of a right seat of a RJ FO.

But if this was a choice between upgrading into a Saab or getting hired at JetBlue or Spirit on the A320, I'd take the LCC.
