Default UPS newhire question

I am a new UPS poolie with a fighter background. I have heard only pilots with heavy experience will be considered for the MD-11. My first choice is an MD-11 to ANC, but I think it is unlikely based on the "heavy experience" requirement. Has anyone heard of a fighter type newhire going straight to the MD-11? Assuming MD-11s are not an option, does anyone have recommendations for the easiest commute/schedule for someone who lives in ANC (like me)?

Thanks

First off, congrats and welcome to the pool! Hopefully your swim will be short.

Next, I'm not sure how they have been placing folks in the different fleets, but hearing the numbers of how big ANC will be, I don't think you will have any problem getting back up there quickly if you don't get it the first time around. The longest you would have to wait is your probie year before you could bid for it. And, as I'm sure you are aware from other posts in other threads, even if you are assigned a different fleet, probies have been pulled out of their classes to change fleets. You never know...

I thought that they were letting people bid what they wanted? Maybe someone that started this week can let us know.

What airframes and routes service South and Central America for UPS? Is MIA the primary hub for these routes? I've seen some chatter here about MIA area being a bad place to live. Where do UPS folks live down there and what are the reserve schedules like out of MIA?

Mostly 757 and perhaps a smattering of 767. The flying is all done out of MIA although I have been told that there is a master plan to transfer some of it to the SDF Z domicile. Part of that plan is flying between South America and Europe. We'll see. Don't know much about living in MIA.

I never heard it called that before. I guess it does look sort of like the viper snake. Must be a good way to build single engine time

I've heard it called the lawn dart out in the Phoenix area (Luke). Sorta like the old WWII saying "one a day in Tampa Bay" when they were training at MacDill.
