That’s not the kind of organization I want to represent me. Everyone held the line including non-union, and Canadian airlines...everyone except ALPA and ATI. |

This argument is moot. Teamsters learned their lesson when they tried to status quo strike at Allegiant and it was shut down before it started. Too many people were in the know with too much notice. They succeeded the next time around with ABX. ALPA could of held the line but instead they played politics over the ABX/ATI representation situation.

There were several small turboprop operators that operated through it, also. The Germans also operated through it. And nobody supports strikes like the Europeans do! I wonder why they didn't honor it?

Been a while since I jumped into the hate fest going on here. But...
I have to declare that I am officially on the fence. Will figure out which way to vote (and, will vote) before the ballot period is over. Why, you say? Let me explain: A. Dan Wells is a dick. Self serving arrogant a-hole. (note the lack of hiding behind initials. Man up, brothers and sisters...) B. If we, as a group, do not vote for anyone (less than 50%+1 participation), we are truly screwed. No representation at all. C. The timing sucks. We have a lot of open items that are scheduled for arbitration. The management pilot thing is very near and dear to me (sorry, tattoo, but I don't feel your pain). D. The national (Borne) has bought into the master plan that we can all stand united against the evil masters at DHL and Amazon. What he doesn't see is that we will stand united regardless of representation. We don't need an amalgamated local to do that. E. Having said all of that, I have been a loyal IBT member for longer than my career at K4. They do get it. We are a different breed than UAL, AAL, DAL, etc.. F. But, Borne, who has ultimate power over the local, refuses to address our issues with a local that is driven (right or wrong) by an agenda that has harmed our pilots. G. In a perfect world, I would fire the E-board and replace them with a more diverse group (less Atlas). But, it is not a perfect world. And, I don't see Mr. Wells resigning to save the cohesiveness of the pilot group. H. Having been in an ALPA pilot group (briefly, oddly enough at 5Y). I Did not find them to be any better or worse than the Teamsters APA. But, I do have concerns that we would not be as big a piece of the pie, hence less attention to our local issues. What to do.... Although I am suddenly finding myself on the fence, I urge you all to vote. I don't see this scenario, but if no entity has 50% + 1, we have no representative at all. I will get off the fence, as all of you should. We need a collective bargaining agent, lest the company run over us all... |
I, too , am on the fence for the exact same reasons.
But, I will vote. |
ocskyguy,
I agree 100% with your post except for B&C. B. This is factually the total opposite. Since K4 is currently represented voting for item #4 on the ballot (No representation at all) IS IN FACT! THE ONLY CHOICE THAT REQUIRES 50%+1 of all on the voter list. This is very clearly spelled out on the voting instructions now posted in the training center, and be mailed out with your pin#. This is also the only possible way to end up with no representation at all. The ballot has three possible yes votes. 1. IBT 2. Doug Pearce 3. Write in of any other representative. To be the winner of these 3 and therefore the new K4 representative ONLY TAKES A SIMPLE MAJORITY! So if only five people vote for #2, ten for #1, and 15 write in ALPA in #3, ALPA is legally our new representative. C. I think the timing is great as Dan Wells cannot hide from the fact of what 1224 is doing over at OMNI. 1224 tries to say it is all about the strength of one on the CVG ramp, but the sad fact is ATLAS is the only other 1224 carrier which does ACMI passenger flying and he is holding up a 85% raise over our 16 day month when they are not even asking to work less days. All K4 pilots must ask themselves this question. Do I have any doubt at all about if 1224 cares more about what Dan Wells wants, or this pilot group. If we stay 1224 after this vote it will only be worse and we will probably never see a new contract unless it has EVERYTHING he wants. Stay strong and write in ALPA so we can control our future! |

Any arguement against that really makes you look like a b!t€h...
I absolutely agree with you - we supported it whole heartedly |

To any of our guys that came from a regional and did not care for ALPA, I understand your concern, because I had the same concerns when I was working for a regional. I found that ALPA could not represent me at the regional level, while they maintained a relationship with the major carrier I flew for. Let me assure you, ALPA was completely different when I flew for a National airline and they will allow us to negotiate what we want, not what someone else wants. The Baron posted some great information, and this should quell any concerns about not being represented. |
