Default Best guess UAV's

Just curious what the word is on the line about when the first UAV will show up at either UPS or FedEx. 5 years, 15 years?

And if either Union has addressed the topic and what they would do to protect jobs.

Hee hee hee.....

Sorry but I just shot an ILS in an MD11 into Delhi that involved 30 minutes at 180 knots, ~6000 feet, waiting for the controllers to untie the knots in their inbounds, all the while dodging 50,000' tall thunderstorms - including one athwart final approach about 4 miles out, just so we could land with an 8 knot tailwind onto a slick wet runway - and half the high-speed turnoffs were blocked with men and equipment, but not the ones listed on the notam.

What was the question again?

See any cows on the runway?

If you have time head over to "Punjabi by Nature" in Noida - good restaurant / good bar.

Yep, that's pretty much standard even during the non rainy season. To have more than one airplane on final w/i 10 miles of the arpt is "congestion" for them. I actually like going to Delhi, just don't like getting into and out of there, it's always a mess and it doesn't have to be.

Thanks also LA for the restaurant/bar scene too.

My point is - if it was all LAX - NRT I could see UAV's. But the FDX system operates into some wild and woolly places, where everything from weather data to ATC to the planes flying around you don't always do what you expect. I guess you could do it from the ground, but nobody's going to take that job for less than a flight crew is making now - too much responsibility. Think of it as tens of millions of dollars riding around down to that slick third-world runway....

About the time they start doing appendectomies or delivering babies exclusively with robots.

All are technically possible, but I'm not holding my breath.

You guys are naive. I bet HKG-ANC routes will be done by UAVs within 20 years. Global Hawk is already in the US airspace system.

That is my feeling as well. Has the IPA even addressed this issue?

I don't think so per se. But the scope languague is such that the flying anything larger than xx will be done by the IPA.

Well my experience with scope (ual alpa) is that the mec chairman or whoever you call him at the IPA can just write a side letter to (help) the company out and magically that guy probably will have a very large suitcase of money show up at his door step for him to retire early and nicely.

Maybe the language can be written up that says specificlly that no UAV's on the property unless voted on by the entire IPA pilot group or just simply no UAV's. Maybe you can write your negotiating commitee a letter to put that on the agenda now. Just to see what their response is.
