Just curious what the word is on the line about when the first UAV will show up at either UPS or FedEx. 5 years, 15 years?
And if either Union has addressed the topic and what they would do to protect jobs.

Hee hee hee.....
Sorry but I just shot an ILS in an MD11 into Delhi that involved 30 minutes at 180 knots, ~6000 feet, waiting for the controllers to untie the knots in their inbounds, all the while dodging 50,000' tall thunderstorms - including one athwart final approach about 4 miles out, just so we could land with an 8 knot tailwind onto a slick wet runway - and half the high-speed turnoffs were blocked with men and equipment, but not the ones listed on the notam.
What was the question again?

My point is - if it was all LAX - NRT I could see UAV's. But the FDX system operates into some wild and woolly places, where everything from weather data to ATC to the planes flying around you don't always do what you expect. I guess you could do it from the ground, but nobody's going to take that job for less than a flight crew is making now - too much responsibility. Think of it as tens of millions of dollars riding around down to that slick third-world runway....

All are technically possible, but I'm not holding my breath.

Maybe the language can be written up that says specificlly that no UAV's on the property unless voted on by the entire IPA pilot group or just simply no UAV's. Maybe you can write your negotiating commitee a letter to put that on the agenda now. Just to see what their response is.
