My 22" roll-away got ran over by a small tug the other day while doing my walk-around. (I know....I should have been more vigilant.) Anyway... I'm now in the market for a new one and just wondered about some favorites out there. I don't want to spend a fortune (i.e. purdy neat...), but have considered Travelpro or something along those lines. I know VF solutions carries the 22" model, but don't know how good it is. I already have a large bag the for 10+ day international trips, but I typically don't get those long trips. I can't seem to find my previous model anywhere or I wouldn't bother asking. (obsolete Sam's club model)

BTW...it wasn't an aircraft tug. It was one used for carrying the cans to be loaded into the A/C. My bag actually worked as a pretty good set of chocks....the driver couldn't roll over it.

I have the bag from Costco, it is called Cordura Ballistic. It has a guarentee, and also can expand if need be. It is also really light, so not too hard carrying up the stairs.

Buying a Purdy Neat bag has been the BEST purchase in luggage that I have ever made. I bought my first bag in 1997, and I just sent it to get a "tune-up" : a couple of new zippers, a new handle, and some frame work. That is 10 YEARS before I have had to do any work on it. Here at UPS, we get Travelpro luggage for free from the company. I have talked to many crewmembers that have said their luggage breaks within 1 year. Not very good...

Splurge and go the extra mile for a Purdy Neat. They are tough bags and well worth every penny. It will be with you for a very long time. You won't regret it.

I Just got rid of my 22" purdy neat bag.....It was heavy, not very flexible, and falling apart after 4 yrs. I got a 22" travelpro crew 5 (closeout) from the luggage factory for $107 including shipping. It is lighter, more ergonomic and it expands.

Not sure about how durable it will be, but at 1/3 the price of PNS bag, I figured I'd give it a try.

Sometimes you get what you pay for. Sometimes not. I've heard good things, from "thrifty" pilots about the travel bags from Costco. When my Travelpro crapped to bed after only 16 years, I went on-line and did my shopping. I settled on a Swiss Army rollaboard. It's lightweight, expandable, very good looking (it needs to be in order to keep up with me), and its handle swivels so that you can pull it along with your hand vertical, instead of horizontal (which is not so great, ergonomically speaking.) About two years into owning it, one of the bolts that holds the handle onto the case managed to unscrew and got lost somewhere in the internals of the bag. I called the company and in 2 days had two new screws and their associated nuts, along with directions to get into the bags internals, delivered, for free of course. Costco had the Swiss Army one too. $10 cheaper than their bag. It came in at $89 but I didn't like the quality. I thought the Costco bag with ballistic nylon was stronger. Plus you can't beat the warranty. If you replace the Kirkland tag with TUMI, it's the same bag but about $400 cheaper.

For $99 try the Costco bag out and if you hate it return it for your money back—Costco rocks!

I have both the Costco bag and a 26” Purdy Neat bag. I like them both. The Purdy Neat bag is very expensive and lacks a garment bag/suit carrier, but except for the foam handle, which is a joke, it is very tough. The handle got ripped up on its first trip out of the box. I easily fixed it with $5 worth of baseball bat grip tape and now it is an indestructible tank. Unfortunately tanks are also heavy! The Costco bag is an awesome short/domestic bag and I use the included garment bag with the Purdy Neat bag since $300+ doesn’t get you a garment bag but Costco’s $99 does. If I had to do it all over again--I would again buy them both and pick the bag from the closet based on how long I’m gone. If all I needed was a small bag I would go with the Costco bag and try to overcome bag envy.

Does the Costco bag have external side pockets for carrying the occasional extra beverage etc..??? It sounds trite, but I actually enjoyed that feature very much on my current "wounded" bag. I think the Travelpro bag may have some similar external pockets, but I've never examined it up close.

My rig:

- 22" Purdy Neat,
- a generic black "gym bag" from target,
- Swiss laptop backpack.

I do single departures every month, usually around the world, and I can go 17 days with the above setup. I have to do laundry at the midpoint, though.
