The best argument is when a tanker guy tells a 15 guy they do the same job, but the 15 gets in the way. They both orbit over Iraq in a Boeing, supporting the bomb droppers, but the 15's take gas while the tanker gives it. I guess that was why the 15's got sent home early from the war!

If it makes you feel any better I've done about 10% of my left hand turns carrying around AF guys from Offutt.

One of my friends is an AWACS driver and several others are tanker guys, so I can safely say my left hand turns are much better than theirs.

As far as some of my fellow aviators bragging about landing on the boat, well, its better they do that for their ego than us have to pay for therapy for them if they realized that we really don't care.

True...true. I've done a couple out of Balad on alert or when the tanker crumped. Did a couple out of KKMC during Desert Storm, but by and large, if I was logging combat time, it was with a whole lot of AAR.

I still think the coolest thing I've ever seen in my life is a 7 tanker cell with 50 fighers rejoining for a pre-strike gorilla. Looked like battlestar Galactica.

[QUOTE=...I'd say it's still in the 1.5-ish realm for most guys.[/QUOTE]

Unless things have changed drastically at Balad in the past year, the Vipers guys there are doing 3 ARs and averaging 3.4 hours per sortie - 1.5 is unheard of (but still wished for...) anymore.

Not talking about Viper Driver ASD out of Balad exclusively, was talking about the effect rotations to the desert had on a guy's ASD overall. Just crunched mine from my SWA app...turns out it is 1.65 (I did not throw in any .3 factor for this calculation). Gut feel is mine might be a little higher than most.

Did my best to lower it these past couple of weeks: We're in a BFM phase, yeah baby (and ouch, bring on the Ibuprofen for this old man).
