Does Amazon Air have to shut down following this no confidence vote? I didn't think Amazon even had unionized staff.
I would have expected the vote not to be for Amazon Air (see thread title) but for one of the carriers under Amazon. And maybe not even the carrier itself, but a pilot group at the carrier?
Don't think the title is that accurate. I know ABX pilots like to consider themselves Amazon Air pilots, and they do fly those planes, but they are really one of a few contractors working for Amazon, and one of the smaller ones.
Now Southern Air - they HAVE to pay those pilots more - along with Atlas. Seriously - how do these airlines retain pilots at those pay rates?
5 year captain at ATI is around $210. AA is $275. UPS is $300. I feel like southern / atlas etc are way below that.

Why - especially considering that "Amazon Air" doesn't really exist except as a small group of eggheads within Amazon itself who spend their days trying to figure out how to squeeze an extra mile out of a pound of fuel?
They don't.
It wasn't.
It was. Did you read the article?
It's somewhat misleading. But if you're among the 99% who know the name Amazon but not ABX, it gets your attention. You should read the article. You might find answers to your questions there.
You seem to have us confused with somebody else. I guarantee you that nobody at ABX considers themselves an Amazon Air pilot.
They don't. It's why they're having trouble staffing operations, to the point that two of their Amazon 767s have been handed off for operation by ATSG, and upgrade time on the 737 at Southern is around a year.
One of the Atlas "frequent fliers" in the DHL lounge is of the opinion that Atlas will have a new contract by the end of the year. I admire his optimism.

What I find hilarious and disingenuous about the article is that it fails to mention the other airline that flys for Amazon. The only airlines mentioned are the two who are having major issues between their pilots and management. A bit suspect to me. Did the reporter bother to interview any pilots from the other airline? No...and that is probably because this reporter was called by folks from one or both of the disgruntled parties.
I find it amazing these two groups of people continue to disparage Amazon over their problems as though Amazon is the cause of their woes.
The unmentioned airline is doing the job and moving most of the freight for Amazon. While their pilots do not make UPS and Fedex money, they are not too far behind.
While I agree that pay is seriously lacking at the two airlines mentioned, this is not Amazon's fault nor their fight. They just want their freight moved. For now, they are a customer and should be treated as such. You don't bite the hand that feeds you. No matter how horrible your management may be, they will definitely not see your side of the argument when you purposefully delay movement of airplanes and hurt the customer. You are not helping your case, just making it worse.
Blame the right people and stop using the customer as your whipping post. Unreal!
