Sure, no one cares about freight pilots, but everyone has a cell phone these days. This one captured some freight dogs taking the time to toss their bags out of the burning flight de...uh, cockpit.

The point of posting the video is to say, if one evacuates the aircraft in jammies and slippers, someone is bound to catch the whole scene on video for all of the interwebs to see.
Just speaking for myself, that's not how I intend to be viewed if, God forbid, one day it happens to me.

That's not the point I was trying to make.

*My whole point was it’s much more chill, relaxed and fun environment come on over and enjoy the ride. But I will say that point was missed in my welcome message. Y’all have me thinking to wear my long sleeve pull over departing/arriving and get a clip-on tie. Pull over might not help with a flash fire, but a clip-on tie would definitely keep me from hanging myself climbing out of the jet or this thread. Good points to be sure!

Do you not get the fact that we change into PJs or whatever one feels comfy in after getting safely airborne and up at cruise? No one's taxiing around on the ground or initiating takeoff or landing wearing something that would be an issue if an evac became necessary.

All I'm trying to say is, the flight de...uh, cockpit, is a professional environment and we should dress as such. That doesn't mean full uniform with top button fastened and tie cinched all the way up, but I think "business casual" is casual enough. Just because we don't work in a bank office doesn't mean we should be dressing like we're having a slumber party.
I have seen plenty of jammies and slippers and gym clothes at various points of the flight. But to your point, think about the UPS crash in DXB. First indication of fire was at top of climb. There would be ZERO time in that case to prepare yourself for an eventual evacuation.
I can guarantee you one thing, I will never be caught going down the slide wearing sweats, jammies, slippers or flip flops. Just seems like common sense to me.

I'm a 15+ year 747 CA for Atlas. I've seen it ALL.

On that day....when your aircraft suffers a catastrophic emergency at cruise. No time for a uniform change before heroically landing your aircraft safely. The world will see you and say “Damn, that guy sure looks professional.” And on that day....you can come back here to say “I told you so.” As for me....if that day ever comes and I somehow survive....I will have to hang my head in shame, for the world will have seen me in my ninja turtles onesie jammies.
Zerozero - you have somehow lost your freight dawg sense of reality. I'm sorry that happened.
Thank goodness most of us still have a realistic sense of what this job is all about.
If I have a catastrophic event at cruise that doesn't allow me the time to change back into my uniform before landing and emergency ground egressing, I'll have one mission. To find the nearest mofo with a cell phone or camera and make sure I flash them my PJs and my best one finger salute just for your benefit. You have made it to the top of the tool of the day list. Congrats.
