Sluggo, I appreciate the effort and understand your frustration. This, however, is NOT the appropriate forum.

Albief15,
First I'm voting NO for the LOA but it has nothing to do with the SVT issue. If that happens it will go VERY VERY senior, but everyone seems to be hanging their hat on that one issue and I look at it as a plus. Some guys touch on the other short falls but why do you think guys are so focused on this one issue. 3 month vacation with the family and intl pay. I can't invision a junior guy ever getting forced into that or even close to holding it. What do you think am I wrong?
Lets get mad about money or the lack of it!

First, I am a yes voter. If you don't want to hear what I have to say, skip the rest.
The STV(for those who can't get it right) only applies for a vacancy that isn't filled. It will be bid and filled just like SIBA except for the duration. In SIBA, you can be inversed and given what ever crap line they want to give you if you can't hold the good ones. For all of the doom and gloomers, imagine the min days off lines that could be created for SIBA.
I've also read about the Cathy package being so great. I'm sure the company would be glad to give it to you, the caviot being you get their contract as well. Are you asking that the company pays for 100% of your housing where ever you want to live. There is housing available for the same ammount you would pay in the states plus the $2700 and it is not in the slums. Not ocean front, but not the slums.
There are lots of bad scenarios which people can come up with, the question is, will they all happen. A year from now, we could be facing that killer comet.

Pinseeker....we have differing opinions but I respect your view. I just don't think the HKG STV slots will be gobbled up like the Paris slots will. Thus the junior guys will be thrown into the breech to fill them. With your $2700 plus the amount you say a pilot would have already been spending stateside for a place to live, you get zero equity. At least in the States your mortgage is working for you as an investment or at minimum a tax write-off. You must not have school age kids or I would think you would be more concerned about the non-existent school package and/or the questionable health/medical care support that may or may not be readily available. Spent a week in a HKG hospital once...longest year of my life. And the killer comet has no track record of wacking us.....FDX mgmt does when it comes to optimizing a contract/LOA with holes in it.

R1200T,
I am one of those hung up on the STV issue. I have no plans on ever bidding either of these domiciles. I also think this might be the best deal we are offered regarding these FDAs. However, I have kids at home and don't want the "3 month vacation." I don't know if STV will ever happen or if it will go senior or not. Do you? I have had my time away in the military and still get plenty of it in the reserves. I pick a schedule that minimizes my time away from home. While this type of life may not appeal to you or others, it is my choice.
Again, I believe that this will probably be the best deal we are offered. And I would like to help those wanting to bid the FDAs, but I won't give the company to chance to involuntarily send me anywhere for 3 months (not even one month). They can send me there when I bid reserve or I might just decide I want to volunteer for a month or more, but it would be MY choice.
The bottomline: I don't think this LOA is that big of a deal either way. It isn't a good deal for ME and I won't blindly support the union at this time. The LOA isn't the end of the world, pass or fail. I am not bothered in the least of the ramifications, pass or fail. Will they hire foreign pilots, send new hires, etc? There is alot of doom and gloom, but in the end, it really won't be that big of a deal.
I suggest everyone taking a deep breath, vote in YOUR best interest, and move on.
